is it really that bad? I know we talk about it all the time but mine is now scheduled for the 19th and im nervous it will make me sick. What would you compare the sweetness to?
My DH did the test to check for diabetes (it runs in his family). He told me that the dr. warned him about how horrible it would taste, but really it just tastes like really sweet pop, and it wasn't too bad. Now I'm not dreading it so much :-)
Mine was bad, b/c it was warm (the fridge broke the night before my test at the dr.'s office). Plus, I hate artificial orange flavoring. This time, I take it at home, so I'll make sure it's nice and chilled. Basically, it's SUPER sweet--like pop with waaaaayyyyy too much syrup.

It's just like orange pop. I don't drink pop so I found it to be super sweet for me but the nurse was saying that she actually likes the stuff. It will not make you sick and out of all the stuff I have had to drink for different types of medical tests or medications over my lifetime this was by far the easiest to take down.
Do not worry or stress yourself out over this, it really isn't a big deal.

Mine tasted like orange Hi-C drink from McDonalds.. very sweet & I didn't think it was heavily orange-y or tangy but tasted pretty artificial. All in all it wasn't bad. I didn't like it but I've heard such horror stories & found them all to be false. and I didn't get sick from it either. I think it would be gross if it were warm though like PP said.
The only gripe I had about mine is that I wasn't aware there is a time limit on drinking it & I was happily sipping it, when the nurse was all "OMG DRINK FASTER HURRY UP" but then again, she's my least favorite one there (the same one who- at 8w when I was getting bloodwork done, I informed her that my arm veins always roll and are terrible but my hands are good- said "You shouldn't worry about that, you're just about to push a baby out of your vagina".. yes, I am.. in 7 months GIVE OR TAKE.. that is fat, not bump, THX.)

It wasn't that bad for me -- I got the fruit punch flavored stuff and I held my nose while I drank it. Then I got curious and it tasted just like fuzzy kool aid or strawberry crush...something like that. Not bad at all.
It didn't taste crazy sugary to me. I'm used to drinking diet pop and to me, it tasted the same as if I just drank a regular, flat pop. The drink itself wasn't horrible, I just felt really bad afterward but that's probably because I massively failed the 1 hr and my blood sugar was sky high.
It tastes almost like the orange pop you get at McDonalds. Or almost flat Orange crush. It's not that bad. I have had to do it twice. Once to test for diabites and once for this pregnancy.
Good luck!

I had to do the test for insulin resistance/PCOS years ago and it was SO MUCH WORSE than when I did my 1-hour last week. The first time I did it it was warm and red/cherry flavored and disgusting. I was dreading my 1-hour one but to echo everyone else, it just tasted like a sugary flat orange soda. I wouldn't order it off a menu or anything but it wasn't nearly as bad.
As everyone has said, it tastes like flat sweet orange hi-c. Its not that much liquid which is nice too. I had 5 minutes to drink it and then I had to sit in the waiting room for an hour.
Bring something to read, that hour goes by slow! Towards the end I started feeling a bit sick from all the sugar in my stomach so it was good to have some distractions.

I actually really liked it! I got the fruit punch kind, and to be perfectly honest, if they had offered me more, I totally would have taken it! To me it tasted like slightly weaker koolaid, or maybe slightly stronger vitamin water.
I just did mine on Saturday. I didn't get to choose what flavor I wanted, I got fruit punch. It was cold. It reminded me of a little water bottle. Honestly the flavor wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. I thought it actually did taste like fruit punch. I had to drink it in 5 minutes which was a bit of a struggle but I made it. Had my blood drawn and now I'm hoping to hear no news which = good news here.

Like everyone is saying, it's like a really sugary pop. As for feeling sick, because of all the sugar and it being the only thing in me I felt a little sick AFTER drinking it while in the waiting room but no problem keeping it down. You should be fine. (:
It's not something I would voluntarily drink but it isn't THAT bad. With my second pregnancy I threw it up, but that was after the hour had passed so at least I didn't have to repeat it. If you aren't still experiencing morning sickness I doubt you'll have a problem with the drink.

I just got back from mine a little bit ago. It wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't want to drink it again. The bottle was fairly small and I was thirsty, so I managed to get it down pretty quick.
Oh, and I had the orange kind. It's very similar to flat soda.

its crappy, my OB did a 3hr, she requires that with every patient which I think is bull!!! the drink is not fizzy, to me it was the sweetest koolaid drink youll ever have and its a good amount, not sure how much it varies from the 1 hr test.

it tastes like super sweet, but flat orange soda. it's not that bad really.
some places give you a choice of flavor though, i think there's a fruit punch flavor too, but orange is the least yucky one.
One friend told me flat sunkist, another said hawaiian punch. I am no longer afraid.
NO, it's not bad at all...at least it wasn't for me.
The drink is just sweet- it tastes like candy.
