My daughter has been having a rough time adjusting to formulas since switching off breast milk. I switched to gentlelease after my daughter was constipated on regular newborn enfamil. Well that didnt seem to work and caused worse spit up and still constipated. I am now trying a different brand and went with similac sensitive. Its only been one day but what i am noticing is the similac sensitive is really foamy and her spit up and chunky, and on a burp rag it looks discolored. So two questions:
1. Any one try switching brands and seeing such differences?
2. What works for your baby when they are crunched up and bright red trying to pass a bowel movement and nothing works? It is the saddest thing ever and not sure if its even the formula at this point!
Re: Enfamil gentlelease to similac sensitive??
gentleease still has some lactose in it and similac sensitive has none.
Just because it is foamy and different in color isn't a bad thing.
Most babies at this age turn bright red and grunt and some cry while having a bowel movement because they don't have the muscle memory that we do to poop...they have to develop those muscles and it takes a ton more effort. Is her poop hard? is she not pooping every three or four days? did the dr. diagnose her with constipation?
Similac Sensitive did make my daughter who was going everyday...poop every other day..but that is still normal.
You might want to discuss this with her pediatrician and he/she can decide what exactly is going on (could be a gas issue also?) and tell you what formula would be best.
Also, spitting up isn't a problem unless they are losing weight or are in pain.
My older daughter spit up tons and tons but they called her a "happy spitter" because even though she spit up so much it didnt bother her and she didnt lose weight.
Your daughter may spit up on all kinds of formula....that is all I am trying to say
I also switched from gentlease to similac sensitive (Lactose sensitive not the soy) It was a lot more foamy. It didn't seem to hurt LO. Her spitup was a different color but it didn't seem to stain.
I gave LO a tiny bit of water if she goes a couple of days without a BM. No more than an ounce. But check with your pedi about what they recommend for constipation.
After a week or so on the Similac, LO is doing a lot better with gas, fussiness, and constipation.
