PSA - B12 Deficiency

I posted early about the health issues I have been having. They have diagnosed me with a B12 deficiency. I had now clue what this was or that it can be completely debilitating. I got so weak that I could not function or think. They think my body is not absorbing B12 due to gastric issues from having my gallbladder removed. I am now taking b12 shots and was told it will take a few months to get my strength completely back. I just want all of you to be aware of this deficiency and if you just don't feel right you may want to have your b12 levels checked. Looking back I did have vague symptoms but I just attributed them to being a busy working mom. Also, for those of you TTC, some of the research I read said low b12 can make it more difficult to conceive. I don't want anyone to have go through what I have over the past 6 weeks.

I was DX'd with a B12 deficiency years ago and my doc threatened twice-yearly shots(in the butt) of B12, but I started taking sub-lingual(under the tongue) B12/B6/Folic Acid pills from Trader Joe's and they seemed to do the trick.

  • Good to know! I'm due for a yearly physical, and I need to see if my dr can do a bit more with blood tests, maybe look at iron levels and such since I have a tendency to be a bit anemic. This would also be a good thing to ask when I see him!

Thanks for the tip dkays! Hope the b12 works. Wink

I have a B12 deficiency; I was diagnosed with it 3 years ago.  I take a liquid B12 supplement from GNC.  Apparently, B12 is in red meat.  I'm not a huge meat eater, so my doctor thinks that my body just burns through any B12 I ingest.  I had B12 shots (and bloodwork) monthly for a year to get my levels consistently up; now I just take my supplement and get a shot occasionally.  Prior to the shots, my levels were extremely low and my doctor was shocked.  I am a runner and highly energetic.  He said my levels should have made me practically unable to get out of bed.
