How did you decide how to cut your toddler girl hair. Lila has had one hair cut. It was very mullety and I had them trim the back and the lady cutting it suggested that we snip all the wispy ends to get it to even out. Now it's time for another cut and I'm having an torn what to do. I'd rather not do bangs, but the front isn't catching up and it falls in her eyes.. I don't want her to look back at pictures of herself 20 years from now and think she had awful hair and blame me
How did you decide? Do you style her hair? Do you put product in it? Do you blow dry it? Boy hair is so much easier.
Re: Toddler Girl Hair Style?
My hair did not grow when I was little. Most people thought I was a boy (nice). It finally grew out in the back a little longer, in which then people teased me that I had a rat-tail (even better. NOT). So, even though I didn't particularly like my hairstyles as a kid, I can't really blame my mom, as I know how fine and slow growing my hair was, so there was not much she could do with it. I will say, that although it's still fine, I have a lot of hair, now, and it grows long pretty fast - so there is hope for her eventually! ;-)
I will say, I have seen some little girls get little bobs or something of the sort if they have long wispys in the back, and it usually turns out super cute! I say try something maybe right above the shoulders or below the chin and see how you like it. You might like that it's a "style", even though it's not as long.
Marion just got her first hair cut about a month ago, to even it all up, like your hairdresser suggested. The baby mullet had to go.
We never did bangs and never will until she's old enough to request them. I'm know myself well enough to know I won't keep up with getting them trimmed at the salon and I had way too many hack jobs on my own hair to try to do hers on my own.
When they were growing out, I just pinned them back with barrettes/bows.
As far as styles, we do sides back with a ponytail holder and a bow 75% of the time. Sometimes it's pigtails and we're venturing into the world of french braids now as well. But no product or hair dryer - lord save me when we start needing to do that!

Natalie had bangs for about a year (see siggy), but we just started growing them out. I decided I like her hair better with it pulled out of her face. You can just see her face better. She wears it like this for now, until the bangs are long enough to not just fall straight in her eyes while they are growing out:
I think Lila would absolutely look so cute in bangs from your siggy pic. Emmy was in bangs for 2 years and Ally has bangs now by default because it hasn't grown out, but I try to keep them side swept. I like the bangs for convenience because it didn't go into her eyes/face like it does now. Sometimes she wakes up and she looks like the girl from The Ring!

Ally now with the side swept bangs:
all of your girls are so cute.
Lisa, luv the new family pic.
We have never let DD's hair get past her shoulders. She has REALLY fine hair (didn't get that from me) so it looks best in a shaped bob. We've been growing her bangs and they're now the same length as the rest of her hair so we're going to grow all of it out now. In the interim we used little croc clips/bows to hold her bangs back. She wants long hair like Tangled...ha!
DD#2 - we'll grow her hair out from the start. She has thick hair and it feels/looks like it's going to be curly (again, didn't get that from me) so we'll just skip the bob phase and grow it longer. Looking forward to seeing what type of hair she has.
haha this is funny to me because I keep saying the opposite. I'm sure if I ever have a girl in the future I'll probably change my tune but Cooper has already had to have 3 haircuts plus some trims at home. I keep saying "Gah! If he was a girl I could just put a barrette in it and let it grow, so much easier!"
At two C is just now growing hair. We have no plans to cut it for years unless it looks really bad. Right now it is still very short with a few long wispy pieces in the back. definitely no product or hair dryer until necessary. i have no desire to fight that battle. We will use clips to keep it out of her face when that time comes.
Abbie didn't have hair for so long, I thought it would never grow, but now it is soooo thick! We went from bald, to mullet, to baaaaad Mommy did it hair cut, to bangs, to growing out bangs, to super duper long, to super duper short!

E's hair grew super fast and she had several haircuts before 1yr - mostly to keep her mullet in check. But eventually the rest of it started growing too. We did bangs at 15mo and while it looked cute, it took as much or more work to make it look nice than having no bangs. Maybe because not enough of her hair wasn't in the bangs? But the longer hair would slide forward over the bangs and so she still had to have a clip all the time. While it was growing out I pulled the whole center section back and did a little topsy turvy pony tail there. Since then it's been bobbed twice and a couple inches below the shoulder in between bobs.
I'm lucky to get it brushed most days because she still hates it (hence the most recent bob, less hair to brush). She only gets mousse in her hair when she sees me doing it and begs for it. We sometimes blowdry it if it's really cold, but otherwise just airdry.
This is a dumb question, but how did you get all 6 pics together like that?
Not a dumb question at all! I use Mosaic Maker.
