Bruised feeling in breast?

I have a horrible pain in the bottom of my right breast. It feels sore to the touch and isn't hard or lumpy. I'm wondering what this is bc it hurts like hell! I've read it could be thrush, but so far I haven't seen white patches on the inside of my son's cheeks? Anyone else have any suggestions?I want to continue breastfeeding I need an answer.Help please!

  • Are you sure it's not a clogged duct?  I would try warm compress and massage to see if that helps.  That happened to me a couple weeks ago.  My left breast really hurt when I woke up one morning so I just kept nursing and massaging and the pain eased off throughout the day.  Luckily, it was mostly gone by the next morning.

  • I agree - it sounds like a clogged duct. A warm compress and massage may help, and definitely keep nursing so baby can drain the breast.

  • Sounds like a clogged duct.  Gerber or Nuk sell these great compresses that you can make hot or cold -- there is a hole cut out for the nipple.  Wear them warm in your bra for 15 minutes or so before nursing and then massage that area while you nurse to try to unclog. Also nurse like crazy -- add a few sessions in to help unclog it.  It might take a day or two.  Usually if you have thrush you have it in both breasts.

  • That was me yesterday! My right breast was hard, but not lumpy and really sore to the touch. It also hurt more to nurse or pump and I couldn't get much of anything out. It was definitely a clogged duct! I read to run hot water on a disposable diaper (it stays warmer longer than a washcloth) and use that as a warm compress. It felt wonderful! I also massaged it and took a motrin. Right before my next nursing session, I made sure to put a warm compress on it again and removed it right when I was going to BF. That paired with nursing relieved it immediately, and it felt 10 times better nursing him. Good Luck!
