2010 baby name list.. Anyone else not care?

I mean, it is neat to see but it isn't changing my mind. Grace was 17 and is now 18, but I could care less that it is in the top 20 because we just love the name. I see posts with people rethinking their chosen name because it is now #430, or whatever. Anyone else not care and sticking with their guns?

It influences my decision a little, but I can't say a name's ranking will completely exclude a name off the list for me. Also, remember that names can be very regional, and also influenced by socioeconomic status. I see hundred of babies a year at work, and I've yet to see an Emma, Hannah, or many other names in the top 20. I would hate to discount a name because of it's popularity if later on there isn't even another child with the same name in the class or even school! If you love it, and don't mind not being unique, I say go for it!! P.S. I love Grace!

I find the list interesting but I don't think that it would change my mind on a name that I absolutely love. That being said, the names that I really like are not considered widely popular anyway.

I was interested to see what names were at the top this year, but I will not let it influence my decision. I don't really like any of the names in the top 20. I actually printed off the top 1000 and I'm going to have my husband look at it and highlight some that he likes as we are having a hard time choosing names.

I have fun looking at those lists because I like baby name trends and find it interesting. But yea, it probably wouldn't have too much impact.

FOR ME, avoiding the top 5 or 10 names on the list was the only thing I wanted to do. And even then, if it was a name I had my heart set on since childhood I would probably have still used it.

I don't really care...it's not really going to change my mind, unless the name I liked was in the top 5 or something like that. Then I might care more. But Madelyn is like 53 I think, so it's not that big of a deal to me. Yeah, it's top 100, but that doesn't bother me. I was actually talking to my pediatrician last night (who happens to be a close family friend) and she said she only has one patient named Madelyn. So that was reassuring to me.

I care to a degree when it comes to names that seem less familiar to Americans. So, while I would still use our chosen boy name (we were team green), it actually makes me feel somewhat more confident that people wouldn't mispronounce it or misspell it as much when I see that it ranks in the top 500 names. There are girls' names that I really, really love, but to either see them not make the list at all or be in the 900s, makes me wonder whether I would be condemning a daughter to a lifetime of explaining her name to everyone. It's hard to say how I would feel if one of these names suddenly made it to the top 10 or even 50 since I can't really imagine that happening.

I definitely care. If I see a name that is climbing quickly in popularity, I will take it off my list. Having an non-popular name is very important to DH and I.

I love looking to see what people are naming their kids, but none of the names we like are in the top 100, so it's not that big of a deal. By the way, did anyone look at the names by percentages? Jacob and Isabella are only 1% of the names people named their babies. It is much better to look at it regionally if you truly don't want 5 of the same name in your child's class.

I don't care. Our favorite name, Leah, is #24, and its popularity wouldn't dissuade me from using it. There are many cases of names being in the top 20 or even top 10, yet I never see anyone in our school or area with that name. I have only had one Isabella in 13 years of teaching, and maybe a handful of Jacobs.

I care, but I will use the names I like anyway. Almost all of our front runners are top 10 and we don't have anything below top 20. I am a teacher so I know that "popular" names aren't really as popular as you might think with all of the you-neek names out there these days. And, my husband has a really common name and it hasn't scarred him for life, so whatever.

FWIW- Grace is a front runner- love it!

I care because I like names and I don't want my kid to share a name with about 5 classmates. However, I take more stock in our local hospital web nursery, the state lists and the kids I run into at work. Like in our area, Isabella/Bella/Isabelle, Olivia, Sophia, Sophie, Anna, Grace, Ava, Abby and Emma are huge.

I care, but it might not deter us from using a very popular name. We both like Abigail for a girl, and I decided I liked it before I found out it was in the top 10. I don't know any girls named Abigail, which makes me more inclined to use it. It's tough for us to base our decision on regional trends because we are moving this fall and will probably move again after another year, so we don't know where we're going to settle down.
