Mine sleeps for honestly almost 18 hours a day. Sometimes I worry that this is too much, but I figure if she wants to sleep she must need to sleep. She's 1 week today, is this too much for her??
Not at all. Newborns will sleep the vast majority of the day. At 1 week, they are awake for diaper changes, to eat, and maybe a little interaction with mommy & daddy.
In the next couple weeks, you'll notice a lot more wakeful time!
Most newborns sleep this much the first few weeks. God planned it that way- the newborn sleeps while you recover from labor. By the time you recover, all hell breaks loose and there's no sleep to be had.
I have no idea how much my LO sleeps, but it is most the day. He's awake only a short period of each day and most of that is during diaper changes and feedings. I'm not worried.
