Can anyone recommend a good midwife in Tacoma?

We're new to the area and I'm 5 weeks pregnant. Can anyone recommend a good certified nurse midwife? I am hoping for a vbac! My insurance won't pay for delivery at The Birthing Inn (we can't foot the $1300 delivery bill ourselves), and every other birth center seems to be in either Olympia or more in the Seattle area, both of which are 45-60 minute drive for us. So we've resigned to a hospital birth, but I'd still like to have a midwife.

  • I know a good Doula. She is in Puyallup but I think she will drive to Tacoma.

  • I don't have personal experience there yet, but I am going to meet with a midwife at Pearl Place Women's Clinic (the same ones that deliver at the Birthing Inn - they also deliver at St. Josephs). They rotate which MW you see, so you meet all of them prior to delivery from what I hear - plus they also have an OB in their clinic as well. I have heard great things about them, so I'm hoping for a good experience :)

I know a lot of midwives won't even look at doing VBACS though, so you would definitely have to call and find out about that.  GL!

This is an option, and St. Joseph's Womens clinic is great it is directly across from St. Joe's. St. Joes has to sides to their L&D 1 is more medical and the other is more like a free standing birthing center. I had a water birth there last year and it was amazing.

  • I am 90% certain St Joes doesn't do VBACS. So I think you'd have to go with Tacoma General. I went to the St Joseph Womens Clinic. They are great. But then again, I work at St Joes so my insurance obviously prefers them.
