Cry It Out Success

Just thought I'd share.  I really didn't think CIO would be for K, but this last week was insane.  Screaming fits for two hours every time DH would start the bedtime ritual, DH was really at the end of his rope and not doing good when I'd get home from work.  I would take over and get more screaming until she'd just pass out in my arms after giving the fight of her life.

Thursday DH did the bedtime ritual, put her in the crib, kissed her and walked away.  We agreed to only let her cry for an hour.  22 minutes of screaming led to K passed out with her head against the slats on the crib and 12 hours of deep sleep.

Friday: DH did the same lead up, turned on her noise and lights machine, and she sat quietly and watched it until it shutoff at 20 minutes, and she fell asleep sitting up, no crying.  So far 13 hours of deep sleep.

So, for those on the fence, you never know.  I didn't really want to try it yet, didn't think it would work for us, but so far so good.  Of course, now that I've posted, we're jinxed and night 3 will be horrible Stick out tongue

  • I don't know if we will be a CIO family but the other night DD cried no matter what we did so I finally just put her in her crib and laid down myself because I needed a break from her and in 20 minutes she was out like a light. Smile  I think the older they get the more they realize they are being put to bed & left alone & don't want it.

That's what I did with Ben and I am trying with Cooper now. I lay downon the floor and then eventually I'll move farther and farther away. I've been doing it for a few days with Cooper. I guess it's kind of CIO but I'm there an that works better for me. Cooper sure gets pissed off at fort though. If I can get him to lay down he falls asleep in not too long. Babies and sleep. I hate it.

  • I'm glad you had success!  I think it's pretty funny that she fell asleep sitting up. :)

  • I never thought CIO would work for us and just kind of started it during naptime since Hudson was fighting naps worse than bed.  After about 5-10 mins of crying he fell asleep the first time and now he only cries a couple minutes or not at all before going down for nap/bed .. I am so glad I tried it too!
  • I never thought I'd be a CIO mom either...and it worked like a charm for Maddy :)  Way to go!
  • CIO was one of the best parenting decisions we made!   Holden was 10 months at the time, and he has sttn ever since!

     Enjoy your peaceful nights!!

  • Yeah! We did CIO at 9 months! Ella is a fighter (cried 2 hours the first time we did it and at least an hour for the following 2 days!) and it was THE hardest thing I've ever had to do. After about a week she's been sleeping 13-14 hours a night ever since (except for the 2 months that her molars came through!).

hahah! I have a personal rule that says I never talk about how great my little dude is sleeping, because I'm SO afraid it'll jinx us. That being said, lemme go against the rule just this once. Stick out tongue

CIO has been a life saver in this household. At 6 months old, baby was waking up numerous time per night. The final straw was right before Christmas. He wokeup 7(!!!) times in one night; either hungry or looking for his dropped binky. I was so f*cking sleep deprived, I was in tears. Decided to go the CIO route. It worked in two nights, and he's been STTN ever since.

He was sick a couple weeks ago and woke up a lot in the night. I went and held him, and he definitely got used to it. Now that he's better, we had to start from scratch, and MAN is that hard! However, it's so totally worth it for ALL of us to get good sleep. I highly recommend CIO for anyone who's desperate for sleep. I just had to get over the "it's mean" feeling I had about it and do what I thought was best for all of us. I was a worthless mommy when I had to wake up 7 times in a night.
