Hi! I am a FTM to-be, and I am very interested in cloth diapering.I've done quite a bit of lurking on this board. Not sure about which brands though!
I ordered a Grovia newborn AIO to see what it looked like, and it's pretty cool! But, I'm going to need a lot of them (right..?) and they are $$$.
I've heard good things about kissaluvs size 0's with the thirsties duo wraps...
What is better/more economical for a newborn? And after baby grows out of these, what do you think about GroVia's for older babies? Or what's your experience with simple pre-folds and the thirsties wraps?
I'm so confused, any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Re: Help a FTM?
Prefolds and covers are the most economical way to diaper a newborn, especially if you buy them used on Craigslist or Spots Corner. Kissaluv 0 are great, but definitely pricier, and the Grovia's are even more expensive. I used a mixture of prefolds and KL0s and it worked out well.
Grovia's are nice for older babies, and your laundry will be less bulky if you are only washing inserts and a few covers.
You truly can use only prefolds for the entire time you diaper if saving money is really important. Don't let the people on this board fool you, prefolds will work and you don't need fancy fitteds or custom AIOs.

We went with a variety during the NB stage so we could try some things out. We had infant prefolds and xs bummis super brites, a few thirsties duo sz. 1 wraps, some BG xs AIO, KL0's and a few thirsties fab fitted (no longer made). My DH hated snaps so went for anything with velcro, though got pretty good with a snappi. Truth be told, the prefolds and covers were the most bulletproof against leaks. BG xs were great for the middle of the night changes when you're so exhausted you can barely think straight, and the KL0's were nice before the cord fell off.
As for my regular stash...it's forever changing based on how my LO changes! It's so tempting to pick up OS dipes now, but you never really know what you'll like until you get there.
