Parenting after 35

f/u Kiki! (re: NICU discharge)

Milo didn't come home yesterday. Crying  I got a call from his doctor saying he'd had some reflux and oxygenation issues overnight so they had to run some tests to make sure it wasn't a bigger problem.  It wasn't - whew! - but means he's not coming home this weekend.  Doctor will look at him on Monday and maybe he can come home then, but we'll see.

That was a very disappointing phone call.  But I'm glad it happened while he was still there and not freaking me out at home!

  • Awww... poor Milo and poor mommy and daddy.

But you said it... it's probably better for him to be there over the weekend than have you constantly worrying about whether he's okay or not... then having to go to the ER on a weekend.

Hospital is probably still the best place for his little butt.  You definitely want him 100% before bringing him home.

  • Oh, no!  Poor little Milo.  I'm sure you guys are disappointed, but know he is getting the best care and is looking forward to getting home to Mommy & Daddy soon.   How are you feeling?

  • Hey Kiki, popping over from Pregnant after 35. I have been thinking about you and your family.  Baby Milo will be home before you know it. He is getting the best care in the NICU. You are in my prayers for him to go home with mommy and daddy ASAP.

  • I'm so sorry! that's a big disappointment :( believe me, I KNOW!!! my LO is still bradying his little heart out (PUN for fun!).

Are you on the preemie boards, too?

My mind is mush. Hope you have a good mother's day. I'll be cuddling in NICU, too!

Kiki-  I just looked at your ticker and can't believe Milo is 21 days, considering I was due 1 week before you and went shortly after you (didn't have a May baby either).  I'm sorry to hear that Milo didn't come home this weekend and hopefully Monday will be better news.  I look forward to seeing your update.

  • Thanks all, despite not getting to take him home, I'm having a great time with Milo these days at the NICU, falling in love with him every day all over again.  Sometimes he gets breastfeeding and sometimes he doesn't (you'd think he thought I was just offering him a milk lollipop sometimes).   Will be great to get him home, but the extra NICU time is allowing DH and me to get more organized at home (Milo's crib finally came yesterday).

Happy Mother's Day to you too!  Yes, I'm on the preemie boards (but don't post much, learning a lot, though).  I hope those bradys work themselves out soon!

Thanks Jennifer!  It is hard to believe three weeks have gone by.  It's been a blur.  I hope you're having a fun Mother's Day with Madelyn!

There are so many April mommies from the May board.  Now I feel torn as to whether I belong with the May mommies or the April ones.  I know the moms on the May board better, but feel weird since my baby was born smack dab in the middle of April.  Well, I'm more of a lurker on the month boards at this point anyway.

Me too.  Thanks for recommending the Parenting after 35 board.  I really feel this board will be a nice transition from Pregnant after 35.  Happy Mother's Day to you too.

  • I hardly ever ever have time to post on here anymore, but I had to say that I know how you feel all too well. It's a very bittersweet feeling having your LO in the NICU. Jonathan was supposed to come home with his brother after spending 2 wks in the NICU and the morning of the pick-up, a nurse called me and point blank told me that he had an Apnea attack and turned blue. All the feeling left my body and (in slow motion) I slowly bent my knees and sat on the edge of the couch as a tear started to roll down my cheek. As frightened and sad as I was, I was blessed that it happened while he was still in the NICU because he most likely wouldn't be with us today if it had happened at home. I truly believe that God was watching over him that morning. He came home a full week later, they also kept Joshua for 3 more days "just to be safe". They are both the picture of perfect health now and thriving every day. While I know the traveling back and forth is tiring and how much you really want him home with you, please know that your LO is in the best care he can be in now. You will be snuggling him soon. Promise! (hugs) and Happy Mother's day!

Wow, that sounds scary... I'm glad to hear both boys are doing great now - very reassuring!  Thanks for chiming in, it's good to know that there are others out there who've gone through similar stuff (though I wouldn't wish this on anyone).  Happy Mother's Day to you too!

  • Hoping you have your little boy home soon!  Glad you're able to take advantage of his extra days in the NICU getting organized.  I'm sure it's reassuring to know that he's in good hands at the hospital.
