Who's watching the Widmer Dateline episode?

The fence pole is just getting lodged deeper and deeper in my butt. Man, to be a fly on the wall in that bathroom. I wonder what happened that night.

  • There is a discussion going on one of my friend's status on FB.  She went to school with Sarah, she was from our town so we are glued.

  • I watched it and felt like some crucial details were left out...but that is the media for you! I have my own thoughts on what happened that night but of course, I know nothing for sure. However, I do not think he received a fair trial. The whole system in Warren County seems pretty screwy and those jury of his "peers"? Well they were just whacked.

  • I still have trouble believing he was convicted. In my mind there is plenty of reasonable doubt. But I still wonder how an *apparently* healthy 24 year old woman dies with no explanation. I will be very interested to see if the defense is able to run these dna tests to show if she had this long qt syndrome. But even if she did, will a new trial be granted? We'll have to wait and see.

Interesting.  I had no idea this was ever suggested.  I have Long QT Synrome, so do all 3 of my children.  It's easy enough to test for, just need a little DNA and some time.  There's a broad commercial test now that's $$$ but can determine most of the variants (it can be caused by something like 11 different genetic mutations).

Also, if they can't find any DNA of hers to use they could test both of her parents... It wouldn't tell definitively if she had it or not but it could potentially rule it out if neither of them have any of the defects that cause it. (ETA: well, maybe, maybe not... apparently sometimes this particular variant can happen spontaneously).

ETA: Just did a little googling... They think she has Andersen-Tawil Syndrome (one of the variants of LQTS) because she was born with a cleft pallate and was short.  It's pretty unlikely... barely more than 100 people in the entire world been diagnosed with it.  It is also incredibly unlikely that she would have had this syndrome her whole life and never known given the other symptoms that come with it. Weird.
