Natural Birth

Do you have a cut off when you will accept induction?

My ticker is not accurate, I'm actually 40 weeks and 5 days, but I had to have the talk with my doctor and midwife about when we will induce if I don't go into labor in the next week or so.

Luckily my doc is very laid back, and they just give me the basic risks in either direction.  I really, really want a natural birth, and he agreed it was a good idea to wait at least until near the end of next week.  But he also said the longer I go past that, the higher the risk of meconium aspiration.  This stuff stresses me out!  What are your limits?  Do you have a certain date post term that you would consider induction, or are you adamant about not doing it, ever?

  • My midwife would encourage/support me to go beyond 42 weeks if everything looks ok and part of me feels like she will give me a hard time for wanting to be induced, but my personal comfort level expires at 41w,6d.

I want to give my baby the best chance to come on his own, but at a certain point enough is enough.  I was also induced with DD at 41w6d and I had a really wonderful, natural birth with only a little help from cervadil.

  • If everything was fine with me and the baby, I would try to wait until 42 weeks for induction.  They can do regular NSTs and biophysical profiles to monitor the baby, the fluid, and the placenta while you're waiting.

  • My midwives would have been happy to let me go to 43 weeks, but with ds I was induced at 42 weeks, and he was born 42 weeks and 1 day, and with dd I was scheduled to be induced at 42 weeks but went into labor that day on my own, and she was also born at 42 weeks and 1 day. I wouldn't have gone past 42 weeks.

  • I'm thinking 42w1d is where I'll cave. We'll see. I'm really hoping I don't have to decide.

Because I am very confident in my due date, I would not go past 42 weeks.

  • My self-imposed induction date is always at 41w6d, lol.  I just barely made it by this time around... gave birth at 41w5d. :)

This.  But my due date (from charting) is a week earlier than the one I got from my dating u/s.

So technically 41 weeks by theirs..  42 by mine.

For my first, I would've said 41-42 weeks. But it was almost Christmas and I scheduled my induction for 41 wks (dec 23). Then my son weighed 9lbs 11oz and did not fit out of me easily, to say the least.

Next pregnancy my induction was scheduled for 40wks 1day so we would not have such a large baby again, but then she weighed 9lbs 10oz.

Third baby, I scheduled the induction for 1 day before my due date. I had a pitocin induction and no pain meds and pushed out a 10lb baby. We were all just totally shocked at his size!

My comfort level for this one would be due date induction AT THE LATEST. But I know this is just me...
