I'm gonna go ahead and repost this because I find it to be interesting and possibly useful information, and I know that there might be other mommies who think so too. I deleted the first post because I got taken COMPLETELY the wrong way and had my head bitten off. In that light, I want to say I am just posting this as an FYI to others who may like the information.
I am not a midwife, I am NOT anti-cesarean, or anti-intervention, in fact if you've had or will have a necesary c-section, and it got your baby here safe, more power to you. I may have to have one, who knows, I'm only 12 weeks pregnant, things happen. Some babies are too big, some have other problems, there are very warranted cases for c-sections. Yes, i find a 35-40% c-sect. rate a bit alarming, but as a first time mom, I'm just out on a search for as much info as I can find, and those rates are important to me, as I'm sure they are important to some others as well. I'm mainly posting this for the charts, which are published by the Oregon Public Health Authority.
So, if you think it sounds interesting, here is the article (actually a blog style but whatever) Again, not trying to offend anyone. C-sections happen. Some people want to know about it, some people don't.
Re: Edited repost of C-section Rates in Oregon
I want to know what drama I missed.....Seriously.
And FWIW, 35-40% seems like a normal percentage to me, I would only be alarmed if it was higher than 50%.
I had a c-section after refusing to be induced until 41w3d, it wasn't nearly as awful as I had imagined it would be, and it was overall a great experience.
Lol. I should have left it up and responded to her but I didn't want to add to the drama. I just got called arrogant and agenda driven and something else cause I disagreed with how often it happens and because I said I was possibly giving birth at a birth center with a wayy lower rate. I'm like hey, I'm 21 years old I don't have an agenda...It was just by one person but it was still very frustrating.
But I guess the national recommendation for c-section occurences is only 15% (like how many they think are actually warranted vs. how many are performed) And there's a lot of thinking that some hospitals are quicker to go to c-sect because it is a more expensive procedure. A lot of women actually have c-sect cause they are told their babies are too big, then end up having 5-6 pounders...
I think it usually ends up ok, like in your case, but it has the potential to be very very dangerous and a lot of women don't know the risks until afterwards. It's also a lot more dangerous for obese women than like, a 120 lb. woman. And some women and babies actually die from it, or lose their ability to have more children. To me, it's all just a bit scary. I know that in the end we'll do whatever we can to get our baby here safely, but that's part of the reason I'm leaning towards natural.
The way the link was delivered read like this...
Here's the list of hospitals and their C sections rates. I AM DELIVERING AT A CENTER THAT HAS A 6% C CECTION RATE. So there.
I ran it past a couple of other bumpies and they also got that type of read from it. It was arrogant in the fact that most of the mommas on this board are already mommas and a large number have had C sections (ironically speaking to the rate you quoted). It's a simple "know your audience" thing.
It's not the info you gave, but they way it was delivered. It reeked of "I am better than you if you had a c-section"...and you haven't even had a baby yet. If that's not the way you wanted to come across then I hope you learned a lesson in delivery on the boards, especially when you are an unknown poster. There are plenty of posters who DO want to come across that way, I am glad to hear that you are not one of them!
I totally get where you were coming from now that I read this post, I wish the previous post had more of this type of vibe. I honestly do hope you have the delivery you want (as I stated in my previous rant... ha).

Sorry I had to be the first to flame you, hopefully it's your last. The disclaimer you put in the repost (while probably overkill thanks to my rant) would have prevented MOST folks taking thing out of your intended context. Of course there will always be some crazy lady that even with a disclaimer will use it as a chance to pounce and bust the b*tch out! Gotta love the Bump!!

Hey good find on that one. I didn't think to look up the orig, source.
