I've heard that hot water and lemon help. Milk of magnesia will help, too. Add some more fiber to your diet. I also hear that apples and apple juice really help people -- maybe try that?
MoM is pretty harsh, and you may get the opposite problem from it. Try it in case of emergency, but my doc put me on Miralax daily (I am now up to twice a day!) and the problems I have had since first tri are finally resolved! I just make a honey/lemon tea and pour that in, it is flavorless and really works wonders, and the docs tell me its perfectly safe.

I agree that MoM can be harsh and give you the opposite issue...but, it has been the only thing that has worked for me. I just take a half dose in the morning on days that I don't have to leave the house for a few hours! I guess I'd rather be in the bathroom than be constipated.
I also take Miralax and it is like a miracle drug, for me.
And actually, all of the generic versions work just as well. And they are cheaper. It's just one ingredient - polyethelene glycol.
It doesn't work as a laxative; it actually just makes it easier to go...makes everything move...makes everything softer. It's osmotic.... it draws water into your stool instead of just making your bowels contract and giving cramps, etc to move them.
I usually have to take 2 capfuls, but most people just need the regular dose.
I really should do a commerical for them! It's some kind of wonderful and the only thing that helps me! It's OTC,but sometimes I wish it was covered by insurance, though, because who knows when I'll be able to stop using it.
I added Benefiber to my diet - the non-clumping orange flavored one. I take 2 tsp 3x a day in water. It helps keep me regular.
For a short-term fix - Colace was recommended by my OB, just make sure you get the one that's just ducosate sodium as the active ingredient, no sennokot. Take two at night with some water, and it always has me chasing DH out of the bathroom the next AM.

I just had this issue this week. By Wednesday night I was soo uncomfortable that I called my dr. He said the Dulcolax that my hubby had just bought me was fine to take. I took two and within 4 hours I was able to go to the bathroom. I went 3 more times within 12 hours. I felt a little off still yesterday but am back to normal today! I have heard it can be harsh so you may want to take one to start. Good luck!

I hope you find relief soon!

This!
Colace, 2 a day, has really helped me. My dr recommended it. It doesn't really make you go, per say, but it helps you go more easily. Good Luck!
