I found out this week that I've got GD. My doctor is still supportive of my VBAC, but has told me that because of the GD, he doesn't want me to go past my due date, which I am in agreement with.
Before, I was against having the c/s scheduled "just in case", but now I see that it is a necessity.
I'm still hopeful that I can do this but I have come to terms with the possible RCS, which is huge for me. I feel at peace with whatever will happen and am so glad to have a doctor who supports what I want to do.
Re: Let's add GD to this mix
Thanks for the offer! I'll probably take you up on it.
My appointment to see the dietician is Wed, so until then, I'm relying on google searches and advice from my diabetic dad on what I should be eating. It's still hard, though, because I don't know what the dietician's orders will be. I'm just doing the best I can until Wed.
I had GD too, and a successful vbac at 41wk2d. My GD was diet-controlled and my OB agreed that it was ok to go past 40wk if not on insulin or other meds for GD.
The high risk pregnancy board had a ton of GD info on it when I was pg, so go check the posts there. General rule of thumb for GD is that you'll need to eat protein whenever you eat carbs. But for many with GD there's not much that's completely off limits, it's just limited serving sizes. Unfortunately, you'll find that everyone's bodies react differently to different carbs. Some people find that they can eat brown rice withouth effecting their numbers badly, but can't eat white rice. While some can't eat any rice at all without their numbers going through the roof. Your diet choices effect your blood sugar numbers, but a lot of it is up to your placenta... yeah, your placenta. So there's people that eat absolutely perfectly and still have to go on meds.
good luck to you!
