Ladies if your LO has a milk allergy could you please tell me all their symptoms?
I am thinking that my DD has an allergy to milk. She is on milk based formula and 2 weeks ago i started introducing whole milk (She is 10.5mon old).
Since the end of october she has had a runny nose almost everyday and then then a couple weeks ago she got an awful butt rash and will get better and then come back. I took her to doctor last week and they said she had anal strep and that was the cause of the rash. Im not so convinced. Tuesday the rash was back with full force (after she had pooped) her little bottom was fire red and it was like a connected ring that was on both cheeks and starting up onto her lady parts. I called doctor and talked to them and they said give it a couple days and if it doesnt clear up then bring her back in. Well then i got to thinking about the whole milk thing and i stopped giving it to her that day and she has been whole milk free for 2.5days now. It is now clearing up. You can still see where the rash was like maybe its scarred. They wont test her until she is one. I just feel bad for her.
Re: Milk Allergy....anyone familiar with this..........
This is exactly the reaction that my son has to milk.
It also affects his ears too. He even has tubes.
We took him off of milk almost 4 weeks ago and he was also diagnosed with excema by a dermatologist (this can be brought on by allergies). Since switching to soy, he now sleeps through the night again (no tummy ache), he hasn't had a yeast rash on his groin, no more bumps on his arms/face and he sleeps so quietly at night that I can't hear him breathing over the monitor anymore.
It has been amazing!
Thanks for your responce. We still have a month and half left before we can get her tested.
Dairy causes an eczema rash for my LO. The severity of the rash correlates to how much dairy she got. Soy also causes a great deal of bloating and abdominal pain. LO is on a hypoallergenic prescription formula called Elecare. We did blood testing at 11 months old and they came back normal but she still reacts to the dairy and soy.
Why are you offering whole milk so early? I thought it wasn't supposed to be offered to drink until 1 year old, though you could introduce things like yogurt and cheeses before 1 year old...I didn't pay close attention to that milestone since it wasn't going to happen for us...
specially runny nose... she has other allergies that also trigger her breathing problems (bronchoespasms).. we've been in the ER because of this.
she also has atopic dermathitis (sp?)
hold on on milk, and as other PP had said be careful as well with soy or almond milk, as it might be allergic as well. DD is drinking althera by nestle, it's a highly hidrogenated formula, and it has made wonders with DD. Avoiding dairy has brought us a happy baby!
She was tested at almost 13 months - prick test -

We did not do actual allergy testing. We did it an elimination diet and found out what he reacted to.
His runny nose/ear problems started when we weaned at 10 months and he went on milk-based formula. The excema and diaper/yeast rash started with whole milk introduction at 1 year.
Why did you introduce milk so early? I would go back to formula.
He was diagnosed with GERD, chronic ear infections, runny nose, either constipation or diarrhea (never a normal BM), light skin rash on his abdomen. He was also diagnosed as failure to thrive. He finally reached 20 lbs just this month. He is almost 16 months old.
When he was 4 months old I had to stop BFing him, my milk was making him sick. He went on Enfamil AR, then Nutramigen and finally wound up on Neocate. He remained on Neocate until he was a year old. We did Neocate Jr and then weaned him onto Soy and Coconut milk. I have to read labels and eliminate every single trace of cow's milk. The slightest bit makes him sick. We have a nutritionist who helps us figure out what he can and cannot eat. His allergy is severe and they won't even test him for it yet. Allergy tests under age 2 are not accurate. His Drs have diagnosed him based on his symptoms and whether or not removing all traces of dairy makes him better. We will do the RAST test when he turns 2 to know exactly how allergic he is.
There is a big difference between being allergic to milk and being senstive/lactose intolerant.
For DS2 we had to switch him to whole milk at 11months because there was litterally no formula. (this was when similac recalled all there stuff and our commissay pulled everything-we are overseas- and everyone else grabed the remaining formula). No sooner did he have the milk did he break out in hives, turned red, threw up, and had issues breathing. Straight to urgernt care we went (no e.r.). Blood test were taken and we learned he is allergic to milk protiens so anything with milk in it he can not have.
Now a diaper rash and runny nose is more or less a sensitive issue or a lactose issue. We had this with DS1 and he could only tolerate 1% milk and he eventually grew out of it.
Sensitive/lactose issue.........is this something they can test for or just use the symptoms i give them to diagnose? She hasnt had any whole milk for almost 5 days now and her bottom is all cleared up! I guess at her 1 year appt i will talk to them about this ! Thanks!
I wanted to start slowly to make it an easier transition. I was still using formula! She hasnt had any milk for almost 5 days and her bottom is all cleared up. We still have a runny nose but she has had it since the end of OCTOBER non stop! Thanks!
He was just diagnosed with it from the symptoms, there is not a test that they can really do and with her being so young they wouldnt do anything anyway. Talk to your pedi, but I would say at a year start switching over to 1%. Also her body might just not be ready for whole milk this young. Wait till she is a year.
