For those wondering about brazilians

I know I've seen some questions on here about getting them while pregnant, so I thought I'd throw it out there that I got one today and it was not that bad!

My waxer was someone who had experience with pregnant clients and I took extra strength tylenol before hand, both of which I think helped. The pain level was comparable to what it had been pre-pregnancy, and probably even on the lower end.

Just wanted to share, in case anyone was worried about it!

Thanks for sharing...I have REALLY been considering this...

I wax my eyebrows at home and tried to do the other...OH NO...Never EVER EVER again will I try that...lol...maybe it wouldn't be as bad if someone else done it.

  • I've been getting them throughout pregnancy, and its so much easier. When I was pg with DD, I never had them, and maintaining that area myself was not the easiest thing. I like that I can just have someone else take care of it for me. My lady is sweet, and wants me to text her when I have the baby. lol.

  • I agree, they aren't that bad and the results are totally worth it
  • I had one last Saturday and I agree that it wasn't any worse than pre-pregnancy. I hadn't had one since before I moved from the City to a small suburb, so I was a bit worried, but my aesthetician was super sweet and did a great job.

FWIW, at our first childbirth education class this past week, the instructor (the head obstetric nurse where we will be delivering) advised that women who want to groom definitely get waxed instead of shaving. She said shaving may cause teeny nicks you aren't even aware of which have the potential for infection during birth.

  • Ok, so I have never had this done. Do you cut your area down low before going? How do you prepare for this. Is it less painful if you have less hair? I heard not to shave before..I just don't know anything about this, but I am really thinking of getting one.

I had one at about 6/7 months and it was horrible.  Like 150% worse then it ever was before.  Then I just got one two weeks ago and it wasn't bad at all.  I went to a different place, so I think a lot has to do with who does it.

Yes you should cut it down or they will.  Try to find someone who does not use the cloth strips and instead just special wax that hardens and works without the strips (like the Red Door salons).  The strips hurt a lot worse in my experience.

  • I did no preparing this time around and I hadn't been since early August, so it was all a bit unruly down there. If needs be, the aesthetician will trim with a scissor before waxing. She said it should be at least as long as a grain of rice. It won't be comfortable no matter what, but - in my opinion - it is very bearable discomfort and I am guessing it's nothing compared to labor! :)

This is why I've been using an electric razor with a foil, rather than blades. I'm shaving blind as it is, so I wanted to decrease the risk of nicks and cuts as much as possible.

I USED to get brazillians, but I haven't found a place I like here that costs less than $75. I just can't justify spending that much on it. My old place was $35 when I started, and had gone up by $10 when I moved, which I was okay with, but $75 is a little too pricey for me.

The few places I found that were in the $40 - $50 range were either scummy, or I just didn't like the waxer who worked on me.

  • So glad you posted this because I finally gave up the battle and scheduled one tomorrow. Does the extra strength Tylenol really help?

  • I've had several clients get them done the day before induction. Really no different from normal. Although some do say the hormones make them a bit more sensitive.
  • I went in for a brazilian (like I used to pre-preg) and ended up w the fuzzier step-sister the Euro...I was pretty tender. I am usually a trooper but i was definitely more sensitive - might just depend on the person!

Sorry, this ended up being a P&R- yes, I think the tylenol made a big difference because it hurt less than some I've had pre-pregnancy, and I don't normally take anything before hand.

As for the poster asking about trimming- I would let them do it for you. I had been using an electric trimmer, so I had some hairs that were too short to be waxed off.

I am usually a shaver, I have my first Brazilian scheduled for later this month.  The lady said to not shave for 2 weeks prior to have the hair long enough.  I am hoping it doesnt hurt too much, definatly going to take a tylonol
