NO NAME!!!

UGH! We still haven't figured out a name for our little baby bean. The poor kid has a trillion nicknames and no real name. Seems like everything that I like, hubby hates and vice versa. Anyone else having this issue? Any ideas on how to remedy this? Any suggestions for names?

We have his middle name picked out, its going to be James, after my dad, and our last name is Sapp, so we have to be careful there... Help!

*** on a funny note, i do have an uncle that asked us to name our little guy after him... dont worry this will not happen because his name is Tree. I kid you not. No Tree Sapp in our future please! ***

I like Spencer James or James Spencer... SJS...

Thats funny about your uncle...What's his middle name? I was trying to think of a name that you could just change the "T" but nothing comes to mind _ree?? hmmm.

My Daddy's name is James Andrew...and my madien name started with "B" so growing up, his friends always called him "JAB"

  • I know it feels like you don't have long to come up with a name, but you'll come up with something at the hospital if you don't have any ideas yet.  Maybe you haven't agreed on anything because you haven't come up with his name yet.  You may see him and be like "Oh my God, he's so a David" or whatever, and then just know!
  • It took us a long time to decide too.  We ended up deciding on Henson James for our little boy (Henson is a family name from my side).

Our other favorites were Peter and William.  In fact if we have another boy his name might be Peter William.

    Good luck!

  • My sister and her husband named my nephew after their doctor!  Lame, but they had just never thought of it and they thought he looked too much like a Calvin to pass it up.  I love the name Calvin, especially calling him Cal.  I may be biased though :)

  • Have you tried making a "Top 5 or 10" list on your own then compare?

We're pretty much set on our names since December.

  • I am not sure what the uncle's middle name is, he is by marriage, i just thought it was funny that he even thought we would go there. :)

I like Spencer, I will have to run that one by the hubby. And I love Andrew. :) Unfortunately that was on his reject list because he has a cousin that was named that.

The biggest hit for me was that he rejected Austin. It has been my favorite name for so long, but he refuses to pick it because A) he knew someone named Austin that he didnt like and B) no joke here... He hates texas. Weirdo.

Thanks for all the help ladies, I have been super stressed about picking out a name and feel like I am coming down to the wire!

  • We are Team Green. We have had our girls name picked out since really early on and we had out boys name too. Then DH's cousin used the boy FN and we decided to scratch it, even though I have never met DH's cousin in the five years we have been together.

DH says last night, I guess we should just use it...I have moved on from that being LO's name if a boy and told him I really do not like it anymore. The name we had picked out was Wyatt Xander. Then we went to Reid, but our LN is only 4 letters and I prefer Reid as a MN.

So right now the two we are considering are Beckett Reid, Whitten Reid, Ryker (undecided MN), Channing Reid....We love the names Tobin and Abrham, but we have friends with LO's with those names...

We keep calling my dad with joke names because we know he finds it funny. He told us the other night that he thinks we need to be taking things a little more seriously because we are running out of time...I told him not to worry and that LO will have a name by the time we leave the hospital...

  • I did try this with him, and think we need to give it another go. He got a little crazy and put names like Axyl and Brodie on his list, and I seriously dont know where this personality shift came from in him. He is named Christopher, so maybe he is rebelling with some crazy names!

Good idea though, I think top 5 is where we will go from here to narrow it down some more. Thanks!

  • DH and I were this way on names for DS. He was nameless for a week after delivery. Get a baby name book and pour through it. Eventually you'll find something you agree on or at least semi like. DH and I narrowed it down to two names, Ashton and Asher. I got the final say and we love his name.

Hahaha!! Tree Sapp would have been so unfortunate....

Don't worry too much about the name, you'll get there. With my first son we didn't really have a name for him either, we had several we sorta liked, but nothing solid. I I remember right after I delivered him the nurses asked me what his name was so they could do the birth certificate and DH and I just looked at each other and shrugged and said "I guess it's Benjamin" since it was the only one that we sorta liked more than the others. I stayed in the hospital for 4 days recovering from the c-section and I remember wondering if I gave him the right name or if I should change it. It comes with the territory sometimes, all the doubt, you know? but in the end we LOVE the name and my little guy could be nothing other then Ben!

  • What about Owen - i like that name but a friend just used it

My nephews are Gabriel and Jonah and I love both of them, and sadly cannot use either but both work with Sapp too

  • Same here with Owen, some friends of ours used it recently too... :(  Thats the other issue we are facing... everyone seems to be having babies! While of course we are estatic that our friends are enjoying the same joys we are, it seems like we are all competing for names! haha. I like Gabriel, I think i will add that one to my list. I LOVE names that you can shorten for nicknames. :)
  • We have no name either and I am really getting frusterated with my DH.  He wants to name it after our fathers, and then call the child by its initials (JR).  No, my child is going to have a name, and that is what we will call him!  Not to mention that I really don't love the J name.

I have even said that we could use his dad's name as the middle name, which I could live with.  But even then, coming up with a first name is difficult.  Between being a teacher and having friends with kids, it feels like there aren't many names left!

One thing that I do every day is to go over to the Baby Names board to see what names people are throwing out.  I don't think I'd "copy" a name, but I figure that I might stumble upon either fn or mn that I like.

    Good luck to you!
