How to mark your kid? (In case they get lost)

I was reading a few "tips" websites for info on taking a young child to Disneyland.

The last tip I read said to use a permanent marker to write your phone number on the inside of the child's arm. I really can't see myself doing that but I want to make it obvious to whomever finds her (God-Forbid we get separated) that the info is there.

Any suggestions? Do they sell ID bracelets?

My only thought is to pin one of those ID tags they use for people's names at conventions to the middle of her back with our names and numbers.

Again, I don't see us getting separated but I would feel better knowing the info was on her.

TIA

  • Try not to laugh but I just saw the funniest ad at the back of my Parenting magazine. It was for temporary tattoos and they say "If lost, please call:" and they customize them with your phone number. At first I thought it was so dumb - then realized it was semi-brilliant. You may be able to google them. And the kids might like them b/c they're tattoos!

  • I swear I have seen ID bands that are jelly like somewhere....give me a minute.

I forget the site but there is one that makes disposable bracelets for kids with your contact info, and I've seen a site that does temporary tattoos as well.

  • https://www.amazon.com/Child-ID-Bracelet-PURPLE-closure/dp/B0013THHHG/ref=pd_bxgy_ba_img_b  This looks pretty good.  And I think that if there is a medical alert insignia that would make it even more beneficial.  Good luck!

  • When my little sister went to kindergarten they made all the kids wear an index card with their information on it. Now Im not suggesting putting your kids name on it because that could be dangerous but if you make it a lost and found tag just put your names and phone numbers on it. It was attached with string or yarn with holes punched in the card and the kids wore it around their neck.

Also you can update that idea by using those sticky name tags at the store and just put your name and phone number on them.

I've seen a few of my friends post pictures of these on facebook!   They said they loved them.

Amazon has a lot of options for ID bracelets.  Most are velcro, and there are even disposable ones.  I like this one.  We're going to Hawaii this summer, so it might not be a bad idea!

  • My parents would write on the back of my hand with permanent marker. Don't know if that is good or not for the skin but it stayed on and it was in a place people could see.

I would be more apt to do the tattoo versus anything removable.  For several reasons.

    This.

If LO were to get lost, then a "bad' person could simply remove the tag and walk off with LO.

If you were to do permanent marker or a temp tatoo or something then it is more difficult to "hide" if you are trying to kidnap a child.

  • We go to PetSmart and make a dog tag.  I then loop it through DS laces on his shoes.  DS cant remove it (unless he takes his shoe off) and they are fairly cheap.
  • An ID tag is a good idea, pin it to the back of her clothes. But the best thing you can do is to take her into a store when you first get there and point out an employee with their name tag, tell her that if you get lost then to find someone with a name tag that looks like that. And they will hold on to her until they can find you, another thing that ppl dont know about Disney is that if you do get seperated then you find an employee and tell them that you got seperated from your child, they will call the front gate and no one will be allowed to leave until your kid is found. GL!!!

There's a product called Tattoo ID which you can get personalized for your child with whatever name you want or just initials and then phone number.  I think you order straight from their website.

This. I would not want to use anything removable for obvious reasons. If you use marker on the skin it's not coming off and will last for a while. I think the tattoo idea is brilliant!
