sleep question?

My lil one was 5 weeks early and at first slept like a champ and then after a month old she was on like a up every 2/3 hours. But sometimes now she sleeps like 6-8 hours straight. I am not complaining but i know my pedi said i should get her up to feed her every 3 hours. I try to feed her and even unswaddle her but shes like No mom ill eat and wake up when i want. Does anyone else lil one sleep this much at a time? besides that she is a very quiet happy baby.

Re: sleep question?

  • If she is gaining, pooping and peeing appropriately I would let her sleep. In fact I would pay $$$$ for 6-8 right now

    DITTO!

But yeah, your baby isn't going to starve herself. The LC at the hospital I delivered at suggested making the baby naked to wake them up to eat and it's worked on Aubrey once or twice but it is a production. GL!

I would normally agree with this but maybe since your LO was a premie the guidelines are different? I'd call a LC and see what they say. They may want her at a certain weight before you stop waking for feedings. It's frustrating. We had to wake DS during the first two weeks and he was not pleased. D usually have to strip him to his diaper and lay him down alone for a minute o get him awake enough.

  • Is there a reason they want you to wake? I know preemies are different (I have 3 myself) but after a certain point you no longer need to wake them. If she is gaining weight fine I'm not sure you need to keep waking her.

Like pp said try undressing her down to her diaper to see if that helps. Also you might try rubbing a cool damp cloth on her forehead.

  • I would give your pedi a call. My pedi wanted me to wake my little guy every 3 hours (he is also a good sleeper) for the first 2 weeks. At his 2 week appointment, because he was gaining weight like crazy, she said I could wait until he woke on his own. It made a huge difference in how much sleep I got. Plus, it's nice not to struggle to keep him awake for a feeding. Hope you get some good news.

    Yes

The 2 hours I get between feedings during the night just aren't enough!

My girls were born 5 weeks early as well. They have gained weight with no problem and have plenty of wet diapers. The pedi said it was fine to let them wake us when they are ready to eat. You can't force a baby to eat.
