Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What do you do all day?

I'm beginning to think I'm not doing enough with DS. He'll be 2 months tomorrow - and I feel like all he does is play on his play mat, swing in the swing, eat and sleep (I usually try to go for a walk outside, but he sleeps through that too...). I know he's a baby and that's pretty much all they do, but I've tried giving him rattles and he's not interested. I talk to him when he's awake, and I just feel like I'm not doing something. Am I being neurotic, or is there more that I should be doing?!

We kind of do the same.  He doesn't really like his activity mat, so I only put him on it once a week or so.  He swings or looks around in his lamb.  I talk to him.  We eat and nap.  That's really about it.

  • We wake up, eat, play on mat, dance, walk around looking at stuff, fall back asleep while being read to.  Rinse, repeat alll day long.  I do try to get out for a walk or at least take him outside while I work in the garden, but bug season is just starting and the blackflies are getting intolerable.

  • The only thing I add is reading and watching her big brother play.
  • Sorta the same...we also read, and she likes to just lay on the floor watching DS run around and play. We also normally get out of the house at least once a day...that's just how I am. I don't like to stay at home. Me and DS get too bored. So unless we have a visitor come over, then we go out, whether it's the grocery store, out for a walk, or over to my mom's house or a friend's house for the day.

  • i think they just love hanging out with us. DS is a great nighttime sleeper and has a late morning nap but by 10-11am he's up and ready to go. from 10-11am until 8pm he will only take a quick 15 minute nap here and there, so we have a LOT of together time!

i sometimes put him on his playmat and we swat at all the toys, he really only likes his swing to sleep, so the rest of the time i'm just hanging out with him. one of his favorite things is to just sit on my lap facing me and have me talk to him and makes silly faces.

we make the occasional errand run, he LOVES sitting in his carseat and looking out the window.

  • We do basically the same things...adding reading to the mix though. We've been trying to go for walks but it's been super rainy. He seems happy and I see progress with things I see when he's playing on his mat (i.e. swatting/grabbing things with more purpose, moving body around more etc) so I think our activities are on track.

I get some ideas from this site--

Work. But when I'm home with her, we talk and sing and dance around. DH does it when he's with her too. She just started grabbing at her toys last weekend, and pulling them up to her mouth to chew on them. But, she's really chatty, and doesn't like to take naps (she sleeps like a dream at night though).
    I married a ginger.

  • I'm back at work now, but during play time when I'm home we dance around, sing songs, go for walks, practice standing and sitting and rolling over and following things with her eyes, she watches me make funny faces, I blow on her tummy and give her kisses all over her face to make her smile, etc.  She also hangs out in her jumperoo, bouncy seat, playmat, and on the floor on a blanket.  She will chill in the Baby Bjorn with me while I make dinner, bake cookies, do laundry, or clean.

  • DD is a nap, eat, play naked, walk around kinda girl.  We don't go outside much yet because she HATES it when it's sunny.  She also hates her play mat and other toys.  She sleeps in her swing and sometimes hangs out in that staring at the window.

  • When she's not napping she is either in her bouncy seat in the kitchen while I do crafts or preschool work with the older boys at the table or she's being worn in a carrier so I can get chores done.  The only time I actually "play" with her is if she is awake while my boys are napping.  I may put er on the floor and try to interact, but she's only 2 months so there isn't much she can actually do at this point.  lol

  • You are totally not neurotic...we've all probably thought the same thing!

Like all the other moms, we do a combo of almost all those activities (walks, playtime on the playmat, sitting/reading in the Bumbo, visiting with friends, Starbucks runs, etc.).  I also love to sit in bed with her in my lap and have "chat time" with her (smiling, cooing, talking to her).

  • I enrolled in an infant massage class, and DD loves it. So i have that to add the the usual stuff.

  • You're being neurotic, lol.  I will talk and sing to DD at times and that gets her smiling but that's it.  Otherwise, she's eating, sleeping or yelling at you because she wants to eat.  When she's sleeping, I take that opportunity to do one of four things: Clean, shower, eat or sleep.  Bonus if I can do more than one!
