Ok, so I see lots of different ideas on purse designer names. What is your favorite brand for handbags, and is there a place nearby to get one at a steal? I need to make sure I REALLY want a Coach. Convince me one way or the other.
I have had several coach and other name brand purses in my day and I doubt I would buy one again.
The quality is great, but I just beat my purses all to heck. Plus I like to change them out for seasons and occasions and would much rather have $30.00 purses that I don't feel guilty about buying and using a short time.
That being said though, I do have an adorable black coach bag I still carry on occasion, it holds up like no other!

This is me. Seriously. I have never paid more than $50 for a bag. The idea of paying for a big name and then having DD dump a half eaten sucker in there while I am not looking just worries me. But I have looked everywhere for a cheapie, and haven't found one that I would even consider. Tried Kohls, TJs, Stein Mart, Target. Where else should I look before I jump on the Coach?
To me Coach is quality at a not so expensive price compared to other designer bags. Coach is everywhere and its not rare anymore. Just look on the streets. EVERYONE has a coach bag including myself. Ha!
Plus Coach customer service is amazing. On my first purse, I had a fraying issue. Took it into the store and they gave me a store credit for the full asking price even though I bought it at Macy's on clearance. Since they no longer carried that style I got to pick out another one. Can't beat that.
If my $40 purse frayed, I have to deal with it or constantly be buying new ones. It just leads to more clutter that I don't want in my house.
I picked a style that works for my lifestyle and needs. I'm going on 3 years now having a Coach bag and no looking back here. It still looks brand new.
Oh and they are so easy to clean and it comes right up with thier cleaner you can buy at the store.
I only own 3 brands. Coach, Cole haan and Kate spade. As far as quality I think they are all miles above any cheaper bag you can find. Most of my bags are at least a few years old and still look new. I don't really like any of the 3 brands more than the next in terms of quality. I had a light pink coach signature bag with a pink suede leather bottom. It was FILTHY! I threw it on the floor all the time and I was just gross. I took in to a coach store because i was ready to just throw it away and they sold me a cleaner and showed me how to use it. It looked like new! Another plus with my old coach purses i didn't want any longer... I sold them used on eBay and still got really great money for them! K was shocked!
6/28/10: Lost our sweet baby Addyston at 18wk 1day to pPROM
7/24/11: Michael William born at 24wk 2d due to IC after an emergent cerclage at 18wks, 4wk home BR and 2 weeks hospital BR. Grow strong our little Miracle!
9/17/11: Michael joined his sister in heaven after 8 amazing weeks with us on earth. He fought a very hard fight but NEC was too much for him in the end.
I have definitly jumped on the Coach bandwagon. I just got my first in February for my birthday and it doesnt even compare to the cheapies I have always carried. I also get bored of my purses and switched them out a lot, so I picked a color/pattern that goes with a lot. Also, like stillwaiting said you can sell them on ebay and get $ when you are done with them.
I hardly ever carry a purse right now, mostly a diaper bag or I throw my wallet in my work bag. When I'm out and about by myself I have a nothing fancy purse that I use. When I'm done with the diaper bag I've already told DH I'm getting a coach purse.....I think I've earned it!
I like Michael Kors, I won't buy Coach, VB or D&B purely because they are way too common and if I am going to spend $$$-$$$$ for a purse I don't want something everyone has. Everybody and their mother has one and I like unique. I am eye-ing up a Gucci purse right now and DH is enabling me big time so we shall see.
In the past I rarely purchased a high end label. But within the last two years I bought a Kate Spade bag that's great for winter and I just recently bought a Coach back that's perfect for spring/summer. I've been really pleased so far with the quality on both and I think they are defitnitley worth the investment.
A word of caution on Michael Kors. They are not cheap (unless you find them REALLY on sale at Macys or TJ Maxx) and the one or two I've had, and one my SIL had literally fell apart. So I'd rather spend the extra money to get the better made bag then still shelling out $100 bucks for a purse that's going to fall apart. My $.02.

I would get a classic looking leather purse from Coach. I would not buy something in a fun, bright, funky pattern that will look dated in 6 months. I would get something that will be in style forever. My Coach purses (I have 2) look fantastic after years of use, same with my wallet.
I used to buy Coach (and I still have/carry a few); but, in the last three years, I've been more a Michael Kors gal. Regardless of designer, I almost always buy a classic leather (usually black) hobo style, which allows me to get years of use out of one ($$) bag. I tend to get really attached to my handbags, so I'm not the type to want to switch it up, day-to-day.
I have lots of diff purses. DB, Kate Spade and coach. I like my coach the best. Easy to clean and last FOREVER!! If you wanted to go with something a lil cheaper but also nice Vera is also great and you can just throw them into the washer. A friend of mine got a Michael Kors purse I am not a fan...they don't have lots of fun colors and stuff and I like those...she also had problems with the inside of the purse. She now lives in New York so is up on all the fashion and said she would NEVER buy another. I say look around and head to the outlet they have tons of diff kinds of purses. GL!
I guess I just don't get the whole Coach thing, or any of the other name brand purses. Even though I carry a bag forever, I haven't really had issues with quality with cheaper purses. I suppose my style isn't everyone else's style, either, so maybe that's part of it, but I can find it nowhere in my being to spend so much money on a purse. And believe me, I have absolutely no trouble spending money. But I just can't do it for a purse.
I'm not much into brand names or "stuff" and am perfectly happy with my TJ Maxx NineWest or Kenneth Cole purses. And I tend to buy a purse twice a year. Having said that, I buy plenty of Coach bags and wallets because I have forever and their quality is exceptional. I will not drop that kind of cake on any other bag. Although I do know a few people who swear by D&B. But I don't care for their styles particularly. What I like about Coach is superb craftsmanship matched with classic styling.
I remember my mom getting me my first Coach bag when I was a teenager. That leather was like buttah.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. DH is taking me to the outlets to look for a new bag Saturday. I am excited. I know there are several stores there that I can check out the inventory. Thank you all so much for the advice. I am a bit excited about this. My $30 purse, that has been constantly carried for 2 years, is about to rest in retirement. Yay!
