Let's talk about foot swelling...

I am in serious agony!

Is there a point where I should be concerned? I'm on my feet all day, and try to prop them up when I can, but with a two year old, it's almost impossible!

Anyways, they hurt, and are about 3x their normal size! I almost want to post a picture of them they are so pathetic looking! I'm feeling good otherwise, so I don't think my blood pressure is up.

I think I may actually get stretch marks on my feet if this keeps up any longer!

Anyone else want to complain about their feet?!

  • Today at my appt I wore flip flops and my doc brought up how swollen my feet were before I had a chance to.

Worse he said swelling may last up to 6 wks postpartum.

6 weeks?! Oh my! I'm not prepared for that....glad to know ahead of time though.

I think that the swelling of my feet is so much worse than any other pregnancy symptom I have!

  • My feet are so swollen they look like my obese grandma's feet. And the skin is ashy and cracking cause it's stretched so much -- sexy!

My Doc felt them today and then told me I'm probably retaining water. ...ya think?!

But I too, am on my feet majority of the day when I'm working, and they are SO painful to waddle around on. I'm over the swelling, and the heartburn!

  • My feet, ankles, calves and thighs are huge. My doctor just looks at me with pity at this point!

  • Unfotunately, it's normal. My feet are huge, too. With my first pregnancy, they got so big the skin on my toes couldn't stretch anymore and they cracked open and bled. My dr still said it was normal. Ugly and uncomfortable for sure though!

  • Flip flops even hurt my feet anymore.  We took a walk tonight and it was better after but now they are just as puffy as before! Ugh I agree worse symptom I've had.

Oh, I also forgot to mention Doc said to stay away from Pasta, Salt and Breads because they will cause us to retain water more.

I have been drinking lots of water (plain water) and eating fruit today. I hope eating less of those other foods will help with swelling.

well fvck me sideways, that's everything I'm craving. Fettuccine Alfredo, Salt (esp salted pretzels) and bagels. I'm doomed.

  • Today I wore a sandal to work with a strap across the top of the foot. Started to feel the swelling so propped them up but took the sandals off...MISTAKE! I couldn't get my feet back into them to walk out! Lets just say it makes the waddle a whole lot worse when you can't even properly wear your sandals. :/

  • At my appointment on Monday my OB joked with me because I was the same weight for 3 weeks and then gained 4 pounds... and then she saw my feet. You know it's bad when an OB is like, oh you are so swollen! ugh.

I am stuck in a backwards system as my doc wants me to walk as much as possible to encourage LO to drop, but excessive walking makes my feet swell even when I'm NOT pregnant! I have been trying to drink lots and lots and lots of water and elevate my feet (above my heart) when I can. I also dunk my feet in the tub and run cool (not freezing) water over them. Basically, I know I have to just wait it out until she is here and hopefully it won't take the 6 weeks PP to go away that some people experience...

  • I feel you.  I gained 8lbs of weight in ONE WEEK and my doctor said it was all water weight (give or take a pound or two).  He wrote me a note so I can work from home and keep my feet propped up since that's really all that helps.

I had a dream the other night about putting a spout in my foot and all this water gushed out.  Then there were some other insane details about a blue zebra... who knows.Confused

  • My feet are worse when I wake up in the morning and are mostly swollen only on the bottom.  They are so puffy and uncomfortable to walk on and now they are sometimes numb.  I joke that I have hobbit feet, minus the hair.  I also made the mistake of wearing sandals with the strap over the top.  Not only was it very unattractive with my puffy feet sticking up in between, I could barely get them back on again after taking them off to assess the damage.

My feet are so bad that I am wearing my husbands crocs everywhere!

However, just be careful... got taken out of work and have mild preeclampsia now, and the first sign was my feet and ankles. Because of that and a weight gain of 10 lbs in 9 days, the doctor went ahead and did a 24-hour urine test and found protein in my urine as well.

  • I'm in the same boat as all of you ladies. My mw suggested a bath. Apparently having the water all around your legs helps the fluid move out of the swollen areas. She suggested swimming as well for the same reason.

  • My OB at my apt yesterday asked if my right ankle had been "damaged"- uh, nope that would just be my gross amount of swelling.

My fingers also feel like little sausages...rings finally are too snug for me to be comfortable wearing them- I have heard too many stories of rings getting stuck and having to be cut off!
