Anyone else's baby NOT like tummy time?

Hello, ladies :) The subject question kind of says it all...I try to do a little tummy time during each of little lady's awake periods, and it tends to always be the same.  She holds her head up great, but after about three minutes she begins to fuss.  I put her on her side (or hold her), play another game, then put her back on her tummy a few minutes again.  Same story.

Any thoughts on what's worked for you if you've been in the same situation?  Thanks so much.

  • I think you just have to keep at it like you are doing. Jack will handle it for a little while and then get mad. I think the more we do it, the stronger they get, the more interesting it becomes the easier it will be.

  • When did you guys start tummy time? I haven't even considered it yet because Eliza is so young but I would like to know when a good time to start is.

  • DD gets mad when I put her right on her belly but if i put her tummy down on her boppy she wll lift her head and stuff and she seems to hand it better than if I just put her on the floor.

This is how we have to do it also. She hates being on the floor. You can also lay down with LO on your chest.

  • Lucas starts screaming the minute his belly touches the ground and doesnt stop until a few minutes after i pick him up. the pedi said i have to do it every day for at least a few minutes even if he's crying to give him the chance to work those muscles. i hate it, he hates it, it's just no fun. he can lift his head really well when i am holding him on my chest but on the floor on his belly he doesnt even really try to pick his head up or push up on his arms. he arches his back and screams. i've tried the boppy to support and he tolerates this more.

I started when Shelley was about six weeks old.

  • DD screams after about 30 seconds on the floor.  She does likes to lay on dh or my chest.
  • DD does her tummy time on my chest. She lifts her head and looks around. If I put her on the floor, she keeps her face down and cries so it does no good.

I started it while we were still in the hospital if he was awake for a little bit of time. The nurses told me starting it sooner would be better.
