I'm just about to run out the door to visit a friend of mine who went into labor last week at 29 weeks. They have had to stop contractions for her three times already. She 80% effaced and dilated 2cms. Needless to say she is stuck in the hospital until at least 32 weeks when they MIGHT let her go home to carry out complete bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy.
I want to stop and pick up a couple things for her on my way. I'm planning on stopping a Blissful Bath (obviously a bathing/body care store) to find her some nice smelly spritzer and lotion type things and I'm going to hit up Barnes and Noble to buy some People Puzzlers (the all crossword puzzle book that People mag. puts out). Not sure what else to pick up though. I'm assuming that by now she has the obvious things like trashy magazines so I'm trying to think of something time consuming that she may not already have.
Anybody remember Latch Hooks? They aren't super cool, but they could keep a person busy for hours. Yay or Nay??
Any other ideas??

Does her hospital room have a DVD player? You could get her a 1-month subscription to Netflix, so she has new movies to watch while she's there.
I also really like those Sudoku puzzles, and can do them for hours.

I LOVE the People Celebrity Crossword puzzles because they're the only ones I can actually do
And ummm I would rock the hell out of a latch hook!!! I LOVE those things!
I was on bedrest for a week and my friend came over with like 5 or 6 movies from red box, various kinds of snacks, etc. It is amazing how much time you can spend watching movies and not be bored. So if the room has a DVD player, I would just grab some redbox movies.
(I am sure this would get old after awhile, but it was really nice to watch something other than DIY or whatever was on TV for one day.)
Snacks (a little basket of junk food/chocolate), yummy lip stuff, a pretty cup for drinking water, ear plugs, sleep mask, pretty comfy socks, free Netflix subscription (if she has a laptop). Just some ideas, since I've been in the hospital so many times!
I like the idea of the bath stuff, because hospitals can smell pretty sterile and ick... is the latch hook the potholder thing? that woudl be fun! if she's crafty, maybe a beginners knitting kit so she can nest and make stuff for baby. I know that's a powerful instinct that can get squelched when you're stuck in the hospital. I hope she can keep that baby cooking!!!

LOL-ing at the latch hook. God I loved those as a kid and pre-teen!
I like the Netflix idea. Also, at the bath products store you might find one of those lavendar scented eye/neck pillow thingies that might be nice to have.

does she knit or crochet or anything? Or would she want to learn?
I would probably spend a lot of my time watching tv/movies and knitting. So maybe DVDs of a show she would like, but hasn't seen? Like the Tudors, True Blood, etc.
if she knits, stopping at a yarn store and picking up some stuff would be cool. If she doesn't but she'd want to learn, JoAnn and Michael's sell kits that help self teach (or the book stitch and b!tch is awesome for that too).
I was going to say knitting too. Making a scarf is super easy and takes forever.

When I was on hospital bedrest, I had an IV in my hand, so anything that involved writing or using my IV hand much was painful. Plus, I couldn't sit up, so that limited what I could do too.
I remember playing cards a lot with my husband. And reading some. But mostly I just watched TV.

Personally, I would totally want a gift card to load onto my nook! I could read for hours on end! I like the netflix ideas too. I have a laptop so it would definately be coming with me (internet or not!). I have Sims3 and would hope one of my friends would pick me up the newest one (since I don't have it). I do like a lot of the other ideas the other ladies had...the cup, socks (which I hate socks), etc. OOOHHH maybe you could come and paint her toenails? Not sure how close of friends you are.
