DH and I started looking into strollers/car seats this weekend and I was wondering what everyone here has or is getting for their DC. What were the selling points for you? What was the price range? Any drawbacks? TIA!
I liked the Graco Snugride because you can remove the kid from car without waking him/her up. It was also really nice because you could set the seat next to you in a restaurant booth and eat dinner out with a sleeping infant. However, once they get a little bigger, you are going to find yourself buying a convertible car seat or a forward facing one (if after a year old). So you are buying two car seats. So it could end up more expensive.
As far as strollers... there is no right answer. You need to figure out your lifestyle (all indoors, all outdoor, a mixture of both, etc) and find a stroller with the features that you need. It helps to kick tires so to say. You have to test the height, how heavy it is and how hard it is to set up and break down.
With that said, I'm kind of more of an outdoor person and I LOVE my BOB stroller. I got mine heavily discounted at an end of year clearance sale so price shop if you go this route.
The way I see it there are only two choices. A Graco seat with a snap n go (about $160 new) or a combi infant seat with a light weight umbrella stroller ($230 new) or something very similar. Snap n go has more storage, combi folds up smaller and you can use just the stroller after they out grow the seat.
If you are a runner/avid walker then a Bob jogger w/ car seat adapter and graco seat or maybe this might be better than just doing a snap n go, or if you don't run but want something sporty looking and you plan to have a second child within 2-3 years a Phil and Ted with a graco seat.

I just registered for the Chicco one. I had read that right now it's ranked #1 for safest car seat. I liked that it was safe, easy to manuever, and the car seat snapped into the stroller SOO easily. I think it's about $290.
we went a little crazy and bought the bugaboo (cameleon). I don't regret it and I love the stroller but it works perfectly for us. That being said, we just flew across country and didn't want to give up our $800 stroller to the baggage handlers, so we bought a snap n go used for $30. We just put our graco snugride in it and went on our merry way. If we didn't get the bugaboo, I'd get the snap n go for sure but that being said, I missed the bug while on our trip! No where near as sturdy, kinda clumbsy.. but it did the trick.
We have a Graco Snugeride car seat. I chose it for the reasons Tiki mentioned. We will use it with a snap and go.
As our child gets older I want the Bumbleride Flyer stroller. It has almost all the perks of a Bugaboo but costs 1/2 the price. I was dead set on wanting a Bugaboo but DH couldn't see us spending 800+ dollars on a stroller.
I heard great things about the Graco snugride and the Britax Roundabout as a convertible car seat. I registered for the Roundabout and the Evenflo Premier travel system. I am thinking about changing it to the Snugride though.
Thanks ladies, please keep the info coming. Right now we're leaning towards the Quinny Buzz and Maxi Cosi car seat or the Maclaren Techno XLR with one of the compatible car seats.
The reason we like these are because of the light weight, compact style. DH doesn't like the more traditional bulky strollers. The only thing I'm hesitant about is of course the hefty price tag and the fact that we would have to buy another car seat within a year. Any comments/suggestions about either one or any other similar strollers/car seats?
We have the graco snug ride with the snap and go stroller and have been very happy with it. I didn't want to buy an expensive stroller before baby was actually here and we could assess what our needs were. We have used the snap and go both inside and out and while it isn't as sturdy as they come, you can't beat the convenience. Now that she is getting bigger we have been stroller researching/shopping and I think we will go with the Quinny Buzz.
I have the Bugaboo also - it is a great stroller. Expensive, yes. But we live in the city, and I walk everywhere, so good stroller is essential, and I know that Izzie is super comfy in it also. However, I know for sure, it would drive me nuts if I have to take that thing apart all the time (which you will, if you are getting in and out of the car.
If I had to drive a lot, I think I'd do a infant carseat+ snap n go, and then get a great umbrella stroller that has good recline functionality (like the Maclaren techno)
Also don't worry about flimsy feeling. I thought my combi was flimsy but 2 plus years and 2 kids later I have never had a problem. Also a little bit of flex is fantastic for shaking the stroller when you are sitting down in a restaurant and need movement to calm a baby. As long as you don't have 100Lbs in one you are fine. (Zuzu climbs on ours all the time when Gibo is in there...about 50 lbs.)

depends on your budget and lifestyle.

We got the graco safe seat, because it had a higher weight limit than the snugride. And it had a higher safety rating.
The downside to it was that it is larger than a few other seats snugride so it doesn't fit in the tops of shopping carts or in restaurant high chairs.
