I am trying to even out my supply... the right breast has overactive letdown and oversupply and LO can't/won't latch/drink from it. I've been pumping a few times a day to keep from being too engorged but am pumping less quantity the past few days hoping my body will slow the flow/supply.
I guess my body got some message because now that breast just drips/pours milk all day. Super absorbent Lansinoh pads aren't enough, an overnight super plus pad soaked through in 1/2 hour... I soaked through 8 cloth diapers yesterday! - when will this end?
I feel like a freak, how am I supposed to go for my 1st dinner out tomorrow if I have a diaper in my bra and am leaking like a mad woman! Vent over.
Re: Too much milk - vent
YOU FREAK!!!
Jk! I used to leak (not like that) but I don't anymore. I'm sure you'll slow down.
I had an over-supply and an over-active letdown. I was able to get it under control by block feeding and hand expressing before LO would eat. I'd hand express to get rid of the initial engorgement and some of the foremilk (just squirted it into a burp cloth). Then LO could eat off that side without choking/spitting up.
I also block feed. Just alternate sides with every feeding. I did not do any pumping while I was trying to get my supply under control. My LC said that pumping could worsen the problem.
It took a couple of weeks but my supply regulated and my LO actually got used to the over-active let down. I still only let him eat off one side per feeding because he can get 4-6 ounces off one side.
Good luck!

Santas little helper!
Thanks, I've tried expressing first but seriously - this boob is like a fountain for a few minutes! Sorry to the ladies who are dealing with an under supply, I feel that I shouldn't complain but this is extreme and LO can't get on that breast. I would try the block feeding but she won't latch ever to that breast because of the amount/flow. Hopefully after pumping only 4-5 times a day a couple/few ounces, I'll signal my body to slow it down a bit.
As much as oversupply is a better problem than undersupply, you shouldn't feel bad for complaining. It is still a problem. I leaked a ton in the beginning (not quite that bad but almost as bad) and it was horrible.
Try to pump as little as possible.
Other than that, just play the waiting game. You will stop leaking eventually!
As for dinner tomorrow...I guess bring a lot of extra diapers? Wear a loose top? GL!! I'm so sorry...I know what you're going through and it's so annoying. I was uncomfortable (wet and cold) and embarrassed all of the time. I was glad that it was fixed by the time I went back to work...barely!
ETA: You should buy a milk saver by milkies! I used one during the super leaky time. It doesn't help regulate the leaking or anything, but at least you can save that milk and freeze it later.
