So, I have terribly infected, cracked, bleeding nipples. I met with an LC who finally taught me how to get a proper latch and asked that I pump for a few days to get them to a point where LO can try nursing off them again. Because he's only a week and a half, and my milk isn't fully regulated, this means that I am pumping constantly. I hate that I feel constantly attached to the machine and that I need to give him bottles so early on. So, as an alternate I thought maybe using a nipple shield for 3-5 days would be better then pumping and allow me the closeness to my son that I want. Thoughts on this? I have a call in to the LC and will continue pumping in the mean time but wanted to check in and see if anyone had a similar experience.

Re: Nipple shield question
Ditto on using the nipple shield. From a selfish viewpoint, these first few days are precious and valuable to bonding and a lot of babies just need the shield at first.
We shielded for seven weeks - no regrets!
