I can't decide whether or not to pierce her ears. I really don't want to have to worry about the cleaning and changing of earrings, so I might wait until she is old enough to ask for them herself. I think the only way I will do it earlier is if people can't tell that she is a girl (you know, like in movies) hahaha.

I think I will be holding off until she can make the choice to do it herself. Everyone is really surprised at my decision, they think because I am all about piercings (I have several) I would be jumping at the chance to do the same with my daughter.

no. i personally don't agree with piercing a baby's ears. but to each their own i guess.
i'll let dd get her ears pierced when she's able to decide for herself that she wants it done (and can help care for them properly)... probably about the same age as i did, which was 5.

Probably not. I wasn't allowed to get mine pierced until I was 13. Plus, I don't want to have to worry about cleaning them/infections/etc. My grandmother has told me horror stories of when she was 3 and her earring was caught on a sheet and it ripped right out. She said she was too young to know it would hurt. Ouchie.
I won't be piercing my daughter's ears. That's not a decision I want to make for her. When she is old enough to decide she wants her ears pierced and can take care of them herself I will be more than happy to take her.
I won't have her ears pierced until she's old enough to ask. Didn't get mine pierced till i was older and i don't remember missing earrings before that.
We pierced DDs ears at 3 months. She cried for a second and that was it. I cleaned them everyday just like the umbilical cord and she never (still hasn't!) pulled on them. We didn't change them til she was 2. Now she has a whole tree of earrings and loves when I change them.
We'll probably pierce this ones ears at around the same age.
My ears were pierced as a baby, and I'm looking forward to doing the same for my daughter. I think it gives a really refined, girlie look. I will probably get it done as early as possible and have my pediatrician do it with a sterilized needle.
Absolutely, positively not. I can't stand when people get babies' ears pierced. Especially the same parents who talk about how sad and upsetting it is when their children get their shots...and then you purposely inflict pain on them?
I had to wait until I was 10, and while I think that may be a little old, I just don't agree with doing it as an infant or toddler so they look "cute".
Sorry. My opinion may have needed to go in a FFFC post...

No need to apologize, when she sent me the list and this was on it I knew it would be a little controversial. I was 7 when I got it done, same day as my 3 month old sister, and I was terrified. I wanted them really bad, but it took some major convincing that I'd survive. I was always jealous of my sister because she didn't have to deal with freaking out like I did.
I will not pierce her ears until she's old enough to ask for and care for them herself. I can see that being around 7-8 years old. I really dislike pierced ears on babies and toddlers. Sorry if that offends anyone.

ditto on everything, I will most likely not make her wait until she is 10 but definitley until 5.
Nooooooo. It's just not something I ever even imagined doing. I personally think it kinda looks funny but if someone likes it then to each his own! I'll wait and give her the option later if it's important to her. I think I got mine done around 10-11...something like that!
I'm planning on getting them pierced at 6 months when she has 3 doses of Dtap in her.
I def don't see this as cruel and unusual punishment. I kind of look at this the same as I look at getting my son circumsized....although their are some health benefits from this......its primarily for cosmetic purposes.

I thought I would do DDs when she was pretty young (mine were done at only a few months old) but I ended up randomly taking her around 15months. We've never had any issues with them.
I'm planning on waiting until she's old enough to have a bit of input. Step daughter's ears were pierce at around a year old and she constantly pulled them out causing infections and losing earrings.. even those with 'safety backs'
With DD # 1 I wanted to get them done when she was 4 months old, but with all her problems (colic, acid reflux) we decided to wait. She had them done at 18 months and not once did she pull/yank on them or fight me with the cleaning/turning of them. We havn't changed them yet and I don't plan on it for a while.
With this new little on. The plan once again is after her 2nd set of shots unless something comes up again.
And a lot of you ladies say that you want your pedi to do it. I looked into this with DD #1 and was informed that MOST of them do not offer this service anymore (you just have to call and ask). I was not comfortable with the Claires/Icing stores as the average age of employment was like 12.
We took her to a Piercing Pagoda (most malls have them) and 2 ADULTS pireced at the same time while DD sat on my lap. Only cried for a minute. Nothing a snack and sippy cup couldn't handle.
(plus, piercing pagoda had much cuter options for their starter earrings if you ask me.)
No way! Babies with pierced ears look funny. Plus, when they start grabbing and pulling and scratching, they can rip them right out. (A relative of mine had this happen! Not fun!)
I didnt do it with my first daughter, even though my husband and family kept trying to get me to do it...i stuck to my guns and im glad I did...they are her ears so if she wants them pierced later on when she can make that decision than by all means ill let her do so....she is 9 now and has no desire to get her ears pierced She is a little tom boy and into sports and just doesnt want to deal with earrings right now.
So for this lil girl im sticking to my guns again...even though im already getting pressure from the family. My cousin who is due the month ahead of me is having two little girls and is getting their ears pierced so im getting all the guilt trips from her too but im not budging on my decision

our oldest dd asked to get her ears pierced when she was 5. she really wanted them done but it took a couple trips to the piercing place before she went through with it. we will do the same with this dd...she can get them done when she asks. but we'd like to hold off until she's at least 5 like her older sister.

I totally agree! What if she doesnt want pierced ears? I definitely think that's a choice she should make on her own and I will take her to do it when she's ready. I am covered in tattoos, used to have guaged (to 00) ears, have my nose pierced, and used to have a monroe but I will never sign off on a tattoo nor would I make a decission like this for my child.

Definitely not.

Thanks for filling in!

No. When my girls ask for it, then we will get it done.
When I was pregnant with DD1 this issue would go around on the bump every now and and another bumpie had the best line:
