Advice on client dinner

So far I have had no problem hiding my pregnancy from friends, coworkers, and clients, even in social situations where there is drinking. I had committed to a dinner outing with a client at a cheese, swine, and wine restaurant she really likes. I've been out with her before and used the antibiotics excuse, and it's been no problem until now. This restaurant has a lot of pattes and soft cheese small plates and I don't know how to get around this. There are safe options for me to eat, but it will be obvious I think. I really don't want my work to know for a month, but I'm thinking I'll feel better about the whole scenario if I tell her and swear her to secrecy. She's a mom, so hopefully she'll understand??

Would any of you tell in this scenario or have an excuse to avoid both the food and drink? I really can't change her restaurant choice.

TIA!

Re: Advice on client dinner

  • Is there anyway you could change the restaurant? If not I would just wait and see if she seems suspicious. If she seems suspicious just tell her and like you said, if she is a mom herself hopefully she will understand why you dont want it to be public knowledge yet. I've found that people are FAR less observant than you would think and people tend to be focused on themselves so much that they dont really notice what you are doing. GL!

  • When in doubt, I go for the honest approach.  Especially as a mother herself, just let her know.

  • One thing I used recently that seemed to go over was that I went out to dinner the night before and must have eaten something bad that upset my stomach.  So I was avoiding certain foods and sticking to blander things to avoid upsetting a already sensitive stomach.  Just another idea.  I've also said I was really hungover from the night before so certain things just didn't sound good.  And of course, alcohol sounded terrible!  Have fun  - I've been wanting to go to the same place, but now I suppose I'll wait until I can eat more things from the menu...
