Best Engagement Gift...

..you ever received, please?

Dh's best friend from HS got engaged and I cannot think of something to get her.  We don't know her as well as we used to considering she lives in Seattle and we live in Philadelphia, but Dh speaks to her once a month for like an hour long conversation, and we are lucky if we see her once a year.  Help!  She's not the typical ooh-a-toaster-oven type person.  TIA

  • You get gifts when you get engaged?  I never got any gifts!

  • I think one of the cutest engagement gifts I received was from a group of friends. They got us both chef aprons from Williams Sonoma and then a "Bride & Groom" Cookbook from there also.
  • Get her something monogrammed. I loved getting stuff with my new initials on it.
  • I wish I could help but we got so much freakin' crystal ware (candlesticks, frames, etc.) that I could open a small shop!  WTH am I going to do with 20 crystal frames?

  • gifts when you get engaged??! I thought your diamond was the present.
  • What about a gift certificate for a nice dinner with her new fiance? I live in Seattle and would be happy to recommend a couple really good restaurants. :)

Our family actually threw us an engagement party.

    Great idea...could you recommend some?

  • When we got engaged, my aunt who was like my 2nd mother (lives 2 houses down from my mom) told us she was paying for our photography. She said: "Whenever you look at your pictures, you will think of me!" It was very sweet. I don't recommend that though.

Gift certificates for dinner are always nice, or if you know something about their relationship (favorite sports team, favorite movie etc) you could try to specialize it. THe thought will be more than enough, I'm sure! :)

  • I received nothing.

a card would be a nice gesture.   You'll still have shower and wedding - plenty of time for gifts later.

  • I did receive a few engagement gifts.  My favorite was a colorful glass blown ring holder.  I don't like to sleep with any jewelry on so I loved that gift!

Absolutely, Purple Cafe is my favorite restaurant EVER. They have locations in Kirkland, Woodinville, and Seattle. Their website is pruplecafe.com . Their food is amazing. You can see the menu online.

Another really good one is Daniels Broiler. They have locations in Seattle (x2) and Bellevue. They mainly do steak and it's a little more spendy, but I've never had anything but perfect service and food there.

     Good luck!!!

  • I usually put together a little care package. ONLY, if it is a really good friend. And in it, I put the latest bridal magazines, the book "The bride's book of lists," tylenol, and a bottle of champagne.

I think this would be a risky gift if you don't know her personally and whether or not she plans to change her name.  Many women keep their last names now.

    That's a really cute idea.

This is a very thoughtful idea! I'm sure your friends are so happy to get it!
