Progesterone & Endometrium

Does anyone know how big of a role (if any) progesterone plays in thickening the endometrium after ovulation?

I'm wondering if it is possible for progesterone to be high enough to confirm O but too low to produce an adequate lining for a fertilized egg to implant into. Which would also cause lighter periods.

I might not even be thinking of the right hormone.

    I'm not sure about AFTER O, but I'm taking it right now to slough the lining before my surgery on Friday.  It's all confusing to me . . .
