Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How much would you pay?

I am considering taking a job in august, DS will be 6 months old. I will need to take him some where or having someone come watch him Tues, Wed, Thurs (possibly only tues and thurs) from 8:30 to 1:30. I am not going to make a lot at this position so I am trying to figure out if it will be cost effective. What do you think a reasonable rate would be? I am open to in home day cares, someone watching him or a center. TIA

Re: How much would you pay?

  • My nanny makes between $12-15/hour. Most that I interviewed charged this much. I am in SC

  • That would really depend on where you live and what the going rate for daycare is there. We pay $22 a day in a small rural town for in-home daycare. If we just go in the afternoon, it's $11. 8:30-1:30 would probably be considered a full day for us because it's over the lunch hour. But we're extremely lucky to be able to pay for a half-day at a time and not have to pay a weekly minimum or monthly charge. If we lived somewhere else, we would be paying $$$.

  • We paid $27 for DS to be in a center for a half day which is 5 hours or less.  He now goes for a full day which is $32.  I know it varies on where you live too.  The also provide lunch and snacks.  That would be just over $5/hr...a sitter, nanny or anyone would expect more than that.

  • I live in Philly. A "mommy's helper" (usually teens) cost about $5-$8 an hour, and a real certified nanny is $18 an hour.

  • Depends on where you live.  I  know the center where my daughter went the hours you listed would be considered full-time because it goes through lunch time.  We paid $125 a week when my daughter was an infant (they now charge $180 week) for full time.  They did have an option to pay by the hour but it turned out you paid just as much or more than full time.
