Poll: Would you take your kid(s) on a bus?

I'm thinking about a few things here, from running errands to a day trip to Baltimore.

Re: Poll: Would you take your kid(s) on a bus?

  • I would take a child on a Metro bus, with the caveat I would try to avoid using a stroller -- e.g., if they were an infant, I'd prefer to have them in a carrier or something.  A stroller seems like it would be difficult to navigate on a bus.  I also would consider taking my child on a bus, such as BoltBus, for a trip that could be finished in a couple of hours (e.g. Baltimore, NYC).  However, whether I did so would ultimately depend on the child's temprament and that type of thing.

  • did it once, would do it again, it was a very short bus ride from airport terminal to the car rental place, it was fine, DD LOVED it (she was 2), I'd do it again. DS was only 5mo old at the time, not great age for it but if I had to, I'd do it again

  • We've done it.  i'd have no problem doing it again.  I don't ride a bus regularly anymore, but when I did, I frequently saw babies and small children.

  • I voted SS because I would, but only if another adult was coming with us. DS is a runner and can get out of control.

  • Other than the trolley bus in Old Town (which DD loves) I haven't taken the kids on a bus ride.  But I would.  I lived in the suburbs for two years without a car and rode the bus everywhere.  It's really very doable and kids, well, they like the bus.
  • I don't have issue with taking kids on public transportation but I do avoid it with my kid. She does not do well with any sort of containment, so it would make me, and others on the bus completely miserable :-)

  • DS rode public transportation with me everyday for over a year when he was in daycare close to my office. We never had a bad experience (except during the aftermath of the 2010 blizzard). He rode in his ergo and loved it. It would be harder to do now that he'd need to be in a stroller.
