Re: ??? Weekly Check-in ???

  • (1) how old is your LO? nearly 18 months

    (2) Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  couple more words I think.  he says hi now when he first sees someone and bye when they leave.  i think that's a big one for us!

    (3) Next appointment date? next week for reg checkup, consignment sale on sat so I hope to get some good stuff for summer

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? whining and separation anxiety seems to be back (although not full on like before)

    (5) Does redirection work for your toddler when they are throwing a fit? If not, what does?   sometimes.  other times, he just needs to get it out, so I let him be mad about whatever.   He throws a fit every weekend when I make my coffee b/c he wants to play with the (Ceramic) mug, which obviously is a no-no.  I figure he'll learn someday.  I usually try to distract him with a toy/book or food/water or tv

    (6) How often do you take LO out (not just on errands, but somewhere specifically for LO)?  we go to swim class once/week, but mostly otherwise it's just errands.  I'm looking forward to taking him to the pool more this summer.  I'm looking into taking him to some other kinds of classes in the summer (gymnastics or something) and to some get togethers with friends.

    (7) Was there anything during your pregnancy that you did not expect?  a lot actually.  the girlfriend's guide to pregnancy prepared me for most of it, but just the sheer breadth of what is "normal" in any given pregnancy was mind boggling.

    (1) how old is your LO? 9.5 months

    (2) Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Teeth #3 and #4 are in completely, and Tooth #5 is cut through a tiny bit.  I can also tell that Tooth #6 is not far behind.  It's been quite the week!

However, in other news, we're finally starting to make it all night (and all morning, too!) in the crib.  It used to be the H woke up around 4-5am, and then I'd bring him into bed with me.  He made it a few times lately all the way to 6am in the crib, and once til 7am!!!  Also, a few nights ago I heard him wake up at about 3:30am and fuss a little.  But he didn't cry, just sat up and whined a little.  I let him be, and 15 minutes later, he fell back asleep on his own!  This is a big victory for us (even if it was just a one-off).  Usually he reaches hysterics after only a few minutes.

    (3) Next appointment date? Monday to follow up after his ear infection, and to finish his 9-month well baby visit (the last attempt turned into a sick baby visit with a fever and double ear infection)

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Once we got past the worst few days of teething over the weekend, the rest of the week has been great!

    (5) Does redirection work for your toddler when they are throwing a fit? If not, what does?   Let's hope so when we get there!  Stick out tongue

    (6) How often do you take LO out (not just on errands, but somewhere specifically for LO)?  We have music class on Saturday mornings now, and if the weather is nice, we'll go for walk to the park most evenings (he LOVES the swings!), or just around the neighborhood.  About once a month we head to the zoo, botanic gardens, or children's museum on a Sunday afternoon.  Summer's coming soon and I'll be off of work (yay!).  Then we'll replace music class with baby swim lessons (music takes a break for the summer), and also go to My Gym (like Gymboree, but closer to out house) once a week.

    (7) Was there anything during your pregnancy that you did not expect?  Yes!  I had the weirdest pregnancy symptoms, from severe hives (attributed to hormonal changes) on the palms of my hands and soles of my feet, to laryngitis (attributed to swelling on my vocal folds, again from the hormones) for almost 2 months in the 3rd tri.  Otherwise, it was fairly nice, though.  I only had a little m/s, and other than being a little tired, I felt pretty good for much of it.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  1 month 4 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Feeling much better, but the lady bits are still sore at times and I'm still bleeding a little at times too (sorry TMI).  I had let my breasts dry up from breastfeeding since it was unsuccessful and my left breast is all lumpy and totally sore.  Almost like it's bruised...it's been almost 3 weeks now.  Luckily I don't have a fever or anything else relating to mastitis, but it still worries me a bit.  Is this normal?

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

We just went for our 1 month appointment and all is well.  Now I'm dreading the 2 month appointment and all his immunization shots that have to be done.  I have no idea what to expect from it :(

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

Still feeling a tad frazzled just trying to juggle sleep, house work and little Mr.  I feel like I'm all over the place these days and my life is one big cluster.  But starting this week I am finally feeling a TAD bit in control of things so at least there is light at the end of this tunnel.

    (6) How often do you take LO out (not just on errands, but somewhere specifically for LO)?

Not often.  We go for walks to the park with a friend of mine, but I try not to take him out if I don't have to in fear that he will throw a fit.  In fact, I thought I was going to be brave and run to Target after his Dr. Appointment since we were already out and as I'm browsing the cards, he decides to cry uncontrollably.  I think he was just tired and hit his max!  Ugh, it's sometimes so frustrating because I'm so sick of being couped up in the house all day.  I would like to be able to grocery shop and run errands if I need to.

    (7) Was there anything during your pregnancy that you did not expect?

I did not expect to have such a problem-free pregnancy.  I was blessed that everything went textbook and that my delivery (once it finally happened) went MUCH better than I expected.  It kinda makes me scared to be PG again in fear that it would be the complete opposite experience. ;)

    (8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?  What are your favorite music to play to your LO when putting them to bed?  ALSODo you use a "white noise" machine or any other things going on in the background to help LO fall asleep?

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 1 year, 3 weeks
    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Their 12 month check-up in about a week. I know...it's a month overdue...I KNOW! Sad
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? I hesitate to say this in case I'll invite bad things from the universe down on my head, but the last week has been really good! No one has been sick, they're taking a break from teething for the first time since they were 11 weeks old, and all things considered it's going pretty awesome! Ask me again tomorrow though lol!
    (5) Does redirection work for your toddler when they are throwing a fit? If not, what does? I'd say it works about half the time. The other half, if you try to give them a toy or a book they'll just grab it and fling it angrily away, or if you move them to a different location they'll howl even louder - when that happens, we just let them go for a while. Eventually they get bored once they realize we're not planning on reacting to them and settle down (and it usually only takes 1-2 minutes). So far we haven't had any tantrums in public, so I'm hoping redirection will work more often in those times! (6) How often do you take LO out (not just on errands, but somewhere specifically for LO)? Is this counting going for walks? If so, a few times a week. If not, then seldom. We don't really have kid friendly activities here - no zoo or activity center or anything like that - so the only thing we can take them to is the park. And now that winter is nearly here, we're spending less and less time outside. Booo!(7) Was there anything during your pregnancy that you did not expect? Twins. Big Smile LOL I know it's obvious, but that really was the big one. After that, most of the unexpected things - gestational diabetes, PUPPS, etc. - were slightly more expected than they might otherwise be since twins increase those risks.
  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 6 months on Monday!
    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  E is sitting up really well now - such a big change from just 1.5 weeks ago!  It's amazing how fast these little kiddos grow and develop.
    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Monday for 6 month
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Not swaddling!  He was SO cranky and clingy and sleep-deprived.  It's so nice to have my well-rested, happy baby back!  Though to be honest, the clingy-ness was a little bit nice, since E's not really a snuggler, heh.
    (5) Does redirection work for your toddler when they are throwing a fit? If not, what does? We'll see, I hope so!  It's working pretty well right now (for example, giving him a toy during diaper changes), but I know a lot will change between now and toddlerhood!(6) How often do you take LO out (not just on errands, but somewhere specifically for LO)? Not much at all anymore.  The good news is that E is very good about napping in his crib now.  The bad news is that E doesn't really nap anywhere else but in his crib now.  He'll sleep in the car, but will wake up w/in 5-10 min of stopping.  Even pushing him in his stroller (after he's fallen asleep in the car) doesn't work for long anymore.  I'm very protective of his naps, so we try to only go out after his second nap of the day, knowing his third nap will get screwed but we can partially make up for it by adjusting bedtime.  The last time we took him out before his second nap, he was a hot mess the rest of the night, and the next morning.  It sucked.(7) Was there anything during your pregnancy that you did not expect? Hrm...not really, I don't think.  Well, I loved being pregnant, loved it!  And I was worried I wouldn't enjoy it, so that was nice Smile

Yeah, this is another big reason why we limit our activities - Will and Dash are still on 2 naps a day, and they really don't nap well away from home. They'll sleep in the car as long as we're on a highway, but if it's stop/start then you can forget it. And napping in their stroller is restless at best - I don't think they've actually slept there in at least 6 months.

MIL and I once had an argument about this, actually - she wanted to have a big family lunch somewhere right in the middle of their nap time and I refused since I knew I'd be paying for it for days. All 3 of her kids were the "sleep anywhere, anytime" type, so she just.didn't.get.it.

Hah. C made 3 different doctors (at 3 different appointments, no less!) check that there was only one in there. He was a nervous wreck thinking about "what if there's more than one in there?" Crazy boy.

Heh, what really gave me a heart attack was that after the ultrasound tech found the second baby, she chirpily announced that she was going to look a bit more, "Just to make sure there's not a third!" I think I'd have passed out if there was. Stick out tongue

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 8 months tomorrow!  Where has the time gone!?  (and I think saying that officially makes me old!)  Stick out tongue

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  she will wave goodbye sometimes and getting pretty good at pointing.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  hopefully next week for 8 month checkup (and 5 month shots!...we are behind!)

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  sleep, but last night was really good!  I think teething is the culprit so hopefully that stinkin' tooth will pop out soon!

    (5) Does redirection work for your toddler when they are throwing a fit? If not, what does?  not there yet, but hope so!

    (6) How often do you take LO out (not just on errands, but somewhere specifically for LO)?  just for LO, probably only swim lessons, but we go visit family and walk around the neighborhood a lot...something I would do anyway, but also for A's benefit

    (7) Was there anything during your pregnancy that you did not expect?  My tailbone really hurt.  I thought that was pretty random, but prenatal yoga definitely helped.  Towards the end I was soooo swollen.  I couldn't wear any of my shoes not b/c my feet were getting longer/growing but b/c my feet were so fat and swollen.  I remember a few weeks after I had LO, I looked in the mirror and I had ankles! It was very exciting!  :)

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?

15 months and 1 week old

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

    (3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

15 month old pedi check next Tuesday

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?

Wakefulness and teething...same story as last week.

    (5) Does redirection work for your toddler when they are throwing a fit? If not, what does?

Distraction and redirection totally work. So does setting clear limits but also creating a space where the LO doesn't have to be told "no" constantly.

    (6) How often do you take LO out (not just on errands, but somewhere specifically for LO)?

Once or twice a week we'll drive to a bigger park than one that's just walking distance in our neighborhood. Once a month we try to do something like the zoo, aquarium, etc.

    (7) Was there anything during your pregnancy that you did not expect?

To look as cute as I did. I expected to feel super fat and unattractive and for the most part, I didn't feel that way at all. I was also pretty surprised to have insulin dependent GD.

    (8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success? Still charting 4th PP cycle...oddly, according to my CBEFM I O'd on CD12 which is WAY earlier than I ever did before having Libby. So bizarre...I wonder if being PG somehow regulated my cycle a bit more? The cycle I got PG with her I O'd on CD26 and in general, I'm usually between CD17-CD19.

This is a good point, too. I LOVE having a safe, dedicated play area where Will and Dash can do pretty much whatever they want. I think that kids absolutely need to be taught that there are boundaries (e.g., no touching the stove) but it's also really nice to have a space where both you and they can relax and not have to worry about that kind of thing for a while. It doesn't even have to be a playroom, as long as the area is well baby-proofed!

    (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? B is 22 months almost, G will be 8 weeks tomorrow
    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?   B is saying TONS of new words and repeating or attempting EVERYTHING! She also wants to sit on the potty but hasn't gone on it in months but it's still early and there's NO pressure from us. G is smiling up a storm and I love it, especially in the middle of the night when he's nursing :) (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Monday for a dermatology appt for Bella. She's fought a diaper rash which is gone now but still says "owie and hurt" when she potties in her diaper and when she poops she cries the entire time you are wiping her like it hurts. She's just a little red between her labia and I dont' think it's a derm issue but we'll go to at least rule it out... it's really frustrating because I feel bad for her. G goes on the 12th for his 2 month shots :( and check up.
    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  I'm not sure if it's a BR challenge or not but sleep deprivation for me! I'm SO tired and have insomnia a little bit so I'm sleeping like garbage. BR challenges, G is JUST like Bella and gets overly tired and then cries for awhile, it sucks. G is getting her canines and has been very sensitive. I feel bad for her... I think she's also still trying to adjust with her brother here... we always are sure to give her 1:1 time but it's still hard.
    (5) Does redirection work for your toddler when they are throwing a fit? If not, what does? 50% of the time.  We use a LOT of redirection and overall she's a good kid but she's almost 2 so she's testing her limits. Sometimes it's funny to watch her test us and I have to try hard not to laugh because she makes funny faces or does something that is hilarious. We've also started time outs (she's had one last week and one the week before) for things that could hurt her or hurt someone else. We try to redirect, then a warning, then a 1 min. time out on the couch. So far, that's worked. (6) How often do you take LO out (not just on errands, but somewhere specifically for LO)? I try to leave the house once a day for errands or whatever.  It's REALLY hard with two of them, they take up the whole cart if we go to Target or somewhere where we don't use the stroller. We try to go to the library once a week for playtime and we try to go to the park or meet up with friends who have kids Bella's age once a week. It's good for all of us to get out of the house! (7) Was there anything during your pregnancy that you did not expect? .I loved being pregnant with Bella, it was picture perfect. With Grayson it was more difficult, I gained more and was more uncomfortable towards the end, I was also REALLY sick in the beginning until about 16 weeks. That sucked! Overall though I felt very sexy pregnant and now it's another story (postpartum body= not cute!) Oh and the labors were completely different. My epi wore off with G and I felt his whole body come out! Not fun!Future questions: When do you work out? Where?
  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 11w, 7 adjusted

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? feeling ok considering... see below

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? D had his appt yesterday with the pedi surgeon for his inguinal hernia. his surgery is scheduled fo

r next tuesday and since he's a preemie he'll have to have 1 night minimum stay for observation afterwards. not exciting. but we live in the bay, so he'll be well taken care of at stanford. it's one of the top in the country, so that's comforting.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? still dealing with the thrush so i still have the burning sensation at times. it doesn't seem to be affecting him as much. the other thing was when the np said that he'll have a 1 night minimum stay, just brought me back to the time we were in the hospital. ordinarily the hernia operation is an outpatient procedure, but because he's so small, he has to stay overnight.

    (5) Does redirection work for your toddler when they are throwing a fit? If not, what does?  for my sister's kids it worked sometimes. other times we just ignored them. her youngest used do the melting tantrum where they fall on the floor and turn limp & we would ignore him. BUT he would follow us around the house like a worm. hahahah after a while he would understand that melting didn't get him anywhere so he would pick himself up and go about his business. we would try so hard not to laugh as his limp body would follow us around the house. smart kid.

    (6) How often do you take LO out (not just on errands, but somewhere specifically for LO)?  once a week for church, but we go anyways. then to my mom's house maybe 1 or 2 a week.

    (7) Was there anything during your pregnancy that you did not expect?  i didn't expect it to suck so much. i hated being pg. it was horrible. i wanted to be one of those glowing happy go lucky pg women. but it wasn't in the cards for me. instead, i had a crappy experience and the only reason why i would do it again is because i see the wonderful relationship my sister's kids have with each other and i would like D to have a sibling so he could experience that. yes, i'm still dealing with my ptsd. when d gets older and i'm mad at him, i'm gonna say "go read my journal and see how much pain you caused me." HAHAHAHAH joking on the last part.

although, i will say, even though i went through all that, i love d so much and i would do anything for him.

    (8) What other questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?
