Remind me about laundry detergent?

I know there's been posts on this. I'm washing all of LO's clothes this weekend so I wanted to just double check.  You don't HAVE to use Dreft right?  I know their skin is more sensitive but I thought someone mentioned that a 'free and clear' detergent was good enough.  That's what we already buy at Costco and use on our clothes and I don't want to buy special stuff if I don't have to.  Am I remembering this correctly or does it NEED to be a special kind?  TIA

    We used Kirkland free and clear on both our stuff and DS's stuff.      We plan on continuing it for #2.

    Yes, Free and Clear is just fine to use. What was told to me though was that Dreft has something special (borax?) that neutralizes ammonia and helps get the pee smell out of baby clothes. I plan on trying both and using F&C if it works just as well as Dreft.

    We used Dreft for DS #1 but for this one we're using All Free and Clear. DS #1 has super sensitive skin and we've used Dreft up until now with him, but I'm going to try switching him to the All as well.

    We bought All Free & Clear to use for baby clothes & stuff. Dreft is sooo expensive!

    I was reading somewhere that not all Free and Clears are really free and clear. All has brighteners and Kirkland's has brighteners and enzymes in it. I know this is super important for cloth diapering, but I'm not sure how important it is for regular laundry.
