Babies: 3 - 6 Months

If you used the Fisher Price rock and play

When did you stop using it?

We had LO in it in the beginning, then transitioned him to the Arm's reach cos-leeper and I just put him back in the R&P tonight. He's been very fussy at night lately, constantly waking up just like when he was a newborn, and out of desperation I remembered the R&P and tried it...and he is out. LO is 4.5 months old.

  • I wouldn't do that, I know that it is hard during the 4 month wakeful period, but you are going to have a much harder time weaning him from it now than you did when he was a newborn.

  • I'm interested in hearing the responses, too. DD is 3 mo, and we still use it for all sleeping. I know the end is coming soon.... just really not ready for it.

Uggh you are probably right, but he is waking up 3-4 per night and wants to nurse all the time, and lately it's more comfort nursing as opposed to all hunger. Any suggestions?

  • I transitioned LO out of the RnP  at 4 months.  He never STTN but got the best possible sleep there.  He outgrew it and started to push himself out through the night.  It took about a week and sleep training to get him into the crib!  It was tough but worth it.  I couldn't go back if I wanted....it's too small.  I do have the crib mattress elevated and rolled blankets under the fitted sheet to snuggle LO.

  • We switched him to his crib at 6 weeks, he's now 14 wks.  He still fits in it and I keep it downstairs for during the day, not for naps just as a place to set him down to get my arms free.  I don't plan to use it anymore for sleeping unless he gets a cold and needs to be elevated.

Are you comfortable putting him in the nursery now?  My LO was getting up 2-3 times at night when we switch him to his room.  He immediately started getting up usually once, sometimes twice a night.  Turns out we were waking eachother up, he'd squeak, I'd respond which would wake him all the way up.  We are both sleeping so much better in our own rooms, but I know some people aren't comfortable with that.  If you are, it might be worth a try to see what happens.

  • I ditched it at 4 months and after 3 hard nights he STTN in his crib.  You need to have extreme willpower and not give in, no matter how tired you are.

EXACTLY!!!!  A few rough nights pay off in the long run :O)  After a week, you will wonder why you waited!!

  • Now I'm scared. DD is 4 months and still sleeping in her RnP....

  • We're still in the RnP - pretty much only at night.  During the day, she's still a swing/bouncy chair sleeper.  I'm hoping to ditch it at 4 months.

  • We're at 3.5 months and I've started doing naps in the crib this week.  I'll try to start the night time transition this weekend, not looking forward to it as DD will only nap for like 20 minutes at a time in her crib.  And damnit, just when she has started sleeping for 7 hours at a time. (sigh)
  • We are still using the RNP for night time sleeping, LO naps in his boucy seat or swing during the day. Is it bad I planned on him sleeping in the RNP until he is too big for it/sitting up on his own? I am not ready for the alternative being him sleeping in his own room :(

  • Oliver was in the RnP til he was 5 weeks old..then he didnt like it. We did naps in the crib.

Now, we co-sleep b/c he is a hungry hippo still at 3 mos and eats every 2 hours and 40 minutes...but naps are still in the crib..and soon, we need to transition him back to his crib FT - because before you know it, he'll be rocking and rolling...over

GL to you - do what's right for YOUR LO and your family

  • We transitioned at 3.5 months. Occasionally he'll sleep his last stretch in it out in the living room if I'm on the couch but he's much more comfortable in the crib now. It did take a couple weeks of adjustment, though.
