Parenting after a Loss

Re: CP: Med-Free Birth

  • SS: I had no plans. I figured I'd give it a shot as long as I could without meds. I made it to 9cm without (on Pitocin nonetheless since my water broke but I wasn't having contractions on my own) then got the epi.

  • I wanted that epi so bad, but she came too fast and it was sitting on the table next to me as the ring of fire came upon me.  Yikes.  I am proud of myself that I did it med-free though.

  • I planned on going without meds, but got to 6cm and thought I was going to die.  After I got the epi I wondered what the he!! I was thinking even trying to go without it.  :)

  • My only plan was labor at home as long as possible so I could walk and keep labor moving along.  I did not want pitocin, that was my only "thing".

I showed up at the hospital 7 cm and I was honestly doing great.

I got pain meds because I just wanted to relax and hang with my husband until it was go time.

We watched a Law and Order marathon for 2 hours and then DS was born.

    It was nice!

  • I'm SS.

Planned my first to be unmedicated but I had an epidural due to stalled labor, pitocin, and cervical scar tissue (we had to tear through it to dilate me).

Planned my 2nd to be medicated but I had a failed epidural.

Planned my 3rd to be whatever.  After 17 hours of labor and several hours at 5cm, I got an epi.  I delivered  an hour later and had intense breakthrough pain.

My doctor told me "you are at 5 cm. After this you can't get the epi," are you sure you don't want anything?" I didn't know you could get an epi at 9 cm.

I was induced with pitocin. Luckily, everything only took about 13 hours (I didn't actually go into active labor until 6 hours after I started the pitocin). I didn't get the epi, and I'm glad I didn't! Biggest reason, my sister got an epi with her son, and had horrible back pain in her spine for months! Plus, she pushed for hours because she couldn't tell when she was contracting.
