hey ladies - it's been a rough / emotional day. but as i sit down at dinner i can gather my thoughts & give u all an update.
we went to have an echo done on baby. and the cardiologist diagnosed him/her with a heart defect. a defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. he/she will need surgery between 6weeks-4 months of life. i will deliver at CHOP. and he/she will be in the best of hands for constant monitoring. and again for the surgery.
both of the doctor's we saw today were very encouraging that the baby will be okay, especially with the advancements in surgery & today's medical world...and delivering at CHOP. i know there may be problems down the road, but right now i'm just focused on what we can fix to make better.
we opted out of he amnio. he gave me a 30% chance of a genetic disorder. but also told me the risk of getting it could put me into labor, with being almost 24 weeks. we didn't see the 30% high enough for us to risk having a premature baby, on top of a heart defect. the doc was very nice about it - and gave us time to talk & think about it.
i am very happy to be under that practice's care. and we will be visiting CHOP within the next week.. i'm scared for my baby - but happy to have answers to this nightmare i've been having for a few weeks.(i'm sure many more questions will come up!!)
all in all, the baby will be okay! your prayers & thoughts are so much appreciated.
and to announce - WE ARE TEAM PINK!!!! baby girl will be here end of summer / beginning of fall!! we are so excited.
Re: update on baby - heart problems / amnio
So sorry you have to deal with this, but it sounds like you and the doctors have a great plan! I'm sure everythign will workout okay in the end!
YAY for TEAM PINK!!!!!!!!
Go Phils!!
Thank God for the advances in medicine today. My friend's niece just had a baby with his organs formed on the outside. He is about nine months and doing pretty good.
I am sorry you and baby girl have to go through this. I have many T&P's coming your way. It sounds like baby girl will get all the help she needs at CHOP.
A good friend of mne went through a similar thing. Baby is 2 now, does have some long standing problems that were complications from surgery, but he is a happy boy. He ended up needing surgery at 2 days old (more problems than expected).
I hope all goes well!
i'm also sorry you are going through this. i only live about an hour and half away from CHOP, and will be traveling back & forth for OB appointments & then staying there when my baby is born. when is your due date ?? keep in touch!
I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, but it looks like you and your baby and in good hands. I feel so fortunate that we live in the time we do with all the medical advancements.
Also, congrats on team pink!
My due date is October 3rd but more than likely will not make it to full term. If by some miracle I do they will do a c-section at 37 weeks. Im glad you live so close making arrangements to stay is turning into a huge pain lol. When is your LO due? We will defiantly have to keep in touch:)
my LO is due august 28th. i will most likely have a c-section around that time. but i'm not sure of that yet. we'll have more answers when we visit with the doctors and specialists at CHOP in the next 2 weeks. but we'll be down there at the same time. keep me updated! T&P for you!
