do you both get/give gifts on mother's day? do you pick one of you to be "dad" and do father's day, too? or something completely different? what's worked best for you all? thanks![Poll]

We've done something a little different each year. We have tried to share Mother's Day but that didn't work out so well, we've done Mother's/Father's Day but that felt odd, we did just Mother's Day for me.

This year we decided to do American Mother's Day for me and Mexican Mother's Day for J.

I usually get up early and make a nice breakfast for J and she picks up a cute bouquet of flowers for me and a few mini bars of dark chocolate.

We don't really celebrate Mother's Day per se. It just feels kinda silly and Hallmarky to us. For the past 2 years (soon to be 3) we've taken an overnight trip somewhere with the kids. It has always been a little fun outing that makes the day feel a bit more special without the pressure of buying gifts or someone trying to make a breakfast in bed, etc. Plus, it lets us focus on our little family.

We plant trees. Both of our mother's have died so that's it.. Perhaps it will change soon, but I doubt by much. We aren't 'on-demand' gift givers. We do not exchange for Valentines Day or our anniversary. We go to Ptown as our gift every year on our anniversary and stay in the honeymoon suite, where we stayed after our wedding. We give things throughout the year, not so much on Calendar holidays (with the exception of Christmas). We planted 10 lilacs and 1 dogwood last year. I can't wait to pick out our trees for this year! Though, I just remembered, we have Red Sox tickets that day, so we'll probably plant the following weekend.

We just bought a house and so we are kinda tight in the MONEY department and well the tree isnt growing.

So we are not really gonna exchange gifts - However we are not really mothers quite yet as the babies are still growing .. Not sure but I (JAY) love to buy gifts so I have some plans up my sleeve... But normally we spend the day with our moms. My mom does a brunch and then we usually hang with Melanie's mom ...

This year we cant travel to ca so its a lil different.

But we will prolly in the future do a trip or something and only do kitchy gifts from the kids...

We don't do much of anything aside from sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying the fruits of being mothers The kids make adorable little things for us at daycare (two of everything Wink ) and thats about it.

In the past Mother's day has mostly been about the older women in my family (ie. my mother, grandmother, ect), but this year i'm making it a point to claim it for myself and my wife. We've said no thanks to all brunch invitations and wont be exchanging gifts.

Jealous! Each year at school A makes something and it's always just one of whatever she makes, we are completely out so I've never understood why they don't let her make two things. *shrug*

We do the walk for the March of Dimes the day before Mother's day. For me that is my celebration. Walking with my little girl to help the organization that made it possible it the best way I can think of honoring Mother's Day. When you walk it is always so inspiring to see the shirts of the other families with preemies but also so humbling to see the families walking for mother's with empty arms. It reminds me even with all the hardships that getting to be a Mother is a gift.

On the actual day we will hang out as a family. Last year we went out for brunch but I think that would be more stressful than fun this year (E does not like to sit for long) so we will go to Drumlin Farms and have a quiet day together (until S has to go to the library Crying )
