2nd Trimester

Short, small torso gals.....

I am only 5'2 and have a short torso. I am only 15 weeks and holy crap bending is pretty much done for me! My lower tummy is so hard and tight that just getting in and out of my car actually hurts. Putting my pants on, ya forget it!! Has anyone else had this happen and did it get any better?

Please tell me it did because I am trying to prepare myself for the months of bigness ahead!! Huh?

  • I'm the same height.  It gets better but get ready to grow straight outward.  There is no room to grow any other way!

This, only I'm 5ft. total.  Luckily my torso is a little longer and my legs are shorter.  I'm at 25 weeks and bending is not fun at this point.  Hang in there.

  • Sounds like we're about the same build.

When we first found out I was pregnant, my husband looked at me and said, "You're gonna be huge! There's no where for this kid to go, but out!" Sure enough, I'm 19 weeks today, and I'm already getting the, "Are you sure it's only one in there?!?". I haven't been able to button my pants since around 9 or 10 weeks.

There is an up side though. The super bloated, I-look-like-i-just-ate-a-huge-meal stage doesn't last nearly as long. Plus, I'm kind of liking looking obviously pregnant. It's like a happy reminder. Plus, it means you get to switch to maternity clothes sooner. After switching, I might never go back. Sooooo comfy.

I'm your size.  I'm only 13 weeks, but it won't get any better!  It will only get worse, sorry!  Wait till your belly sits on your legs and sticks to your thighs in the summer, sooo funny!

  • I'm actually 5'8", but I am really short waisted for my height.  I guess this is one area in life where having long legs is a disadvantage, since I have no room on my upper half for growth.  I started showing at around 12 weeks and am already finding it hard to move like I used to.

  • I'm 5'3. I think it got better for a little while but I'm 26 weeks now and it is getting worse again. I wouldn't say anything is painful, just more difficult. Bending over, getting out of the car, shaving my legs, its all getting a lot more challenging. It makes me feel out of breath-like my lungs are being squished. Now it is getting uncomfortable to sit slouched forward. You know how hugely pregnant women often lean back when sitting in a chair? I am beginning to understand why...

  • I'm 5'2'' also and just noticed earlier this week that it's getting more difficult to bend over. I was trying to bring my right foot to my face to see how far I could get it and I couldn't. My DH was kinda laughing cuz I'm not as bendy as I used to be Confused

I'm also wondering how I'll be able to get in and out of my car as I get bigger. My car is really low and I'm having to really brace myself to pull myself out and I consider myself a pretty fit person.

  • I'm dealing with the same problem... My belly is also super round now as well as hard. Bending over is impossible and actually hurts my bellybutton (so weird). Trying to get out of bed and off the couch is starting to become a struggle, I can still manage to do it by myself, it just takes me a bit longer. Can't wait for my belly to double in size, I'm gonna be a super awesome beach ball that needs help getting up from everywhere!

  • I am only 5'2" and I am doing okay so far.  I remember feeling that bending over was hard last time, but I don't remember when that happened.  I guess at some point, I wasn't able to see over my bump and I didn't even attempt to bend over.  I carried high, so my bump wouldn't touch my thighs.  You will definitely grow out.  Rolling out of bed will require using a leg swing for momentum and pushing up with your arm at the same time.

  • oh thank god i am not the only one!  i'm 5'3" and have been feeling the same way!  i've gained 10 lbs already but it's all belly and boobs.  so now i have to make sure i gain no more weight or very little over the next several weeks.  which should be super easy with all these food aversions.  Confused

  • I'm 5'4 with a smaller torso and for me it hasn't been easy at all bending. I have to sit with my belly between my legs kind of now that I am bigger. I also had to get a support band (seamless from BRU) to help with the weight and pressure on my back and pelvic area.
  • I'm petite as well. At first it was hard trying to get my jeans on, tie my shoe laces, get out of bed, etc. But overtime, I figured out a way to make it work. I just modified the way I do things. And I need to avoid shoe laces. DH sometimes ties them up for me <3

  • I am soooo glad that there are many of us with this issue! I have gained 15lbs so far and the sad thing is it is all lower half...sigh.....ok boobs too. But I feel like I already need to waddle, but then again I also have bad hip with a past surgical history. I am a mess already. LOL!

  • I'm 5'2" and 24 weeks.  I'm okay if I can sort of squat with my legs apart.  If I have to bend straight down, like to fasten my shoes, I'm screwed.  I either have DH fasten them, I try to wear slip ons, or I sit down and attempt to pull my leg to the side to reach them.

  • I am 5'2 and I am already getting the "are you sure there's only one baby in there"

The comments are worse from my family because my cousin is having triplets due in August and I already show more than she does (she got my family's tall genes).

It doesn't really bother me though because I now look pregnant and not just fat!

  • I am 5'4" and have a short torso....it gets worse. I never drop and my belly just rests under my boobs for the whole third trimester. This has happened twice now so I imagine third times a charm and am expecting horrible heartburn again. Lots of sleeping upright on the sofa arm with 4 pillows and poppong tums like candy....
