Mine is going to either throw up or pass out of maybe even both. I know it... I feel horrible saying it but I have no faith that he will be able to handle things during full on labor. I don't think he will be able to even hold one of my legs. The earlier parts he will be fine with I think. But last night the girl on 16 & Pregnant threw up during labor and he turned completely white.... over a little puke. In a cup. We didn't even see the puke. ![]()
I dont want my mom or MIL in the deilvery room with me so I am just going to pray for a couple really awsome nurses. lol
Re: How do you think your SO/H will do during delivery?
I think adreneline keeps a lot of weak-stomach'd dads from actually keeling over. I think my H will do just fine. He normally gets woozy at the site of blood, but he's become SO interested in YouTubing "natural births" lately and is just so into the process and doesn't turn away or seem uncomfortable at all by watching actual babies being born vaginally...today at my 24 week appt, he asked my doctor about colustrum and leaking. He's all about it. I think it might be sort of like people explain that birth is not a "medical" procedure, but a natural one...so many people that get skeeved out by cuts and surgeries and "medical" things don't get that affected by birth...especially of their own child. At least, I hope that's the case for us
My DH talks a lot of crap saying that he won't look "down there" and how he's freaked out but I know him better than that and think that he will do great. I am betting that he will WANT to look and maybe even cut the cord! I won't be offended if he doesn't but he's super grossed out by it haha...I think during the labor/waiting part he will be bored and anxious
Ladies - you have actually given me a little hope for my H after all! LOL! Maybe with all the excitement he is will do ok. Maybe as long as nothing too complicated comes up and it's not TOO lengthy of a process. Like if he doesn't have a ton of time to think about what's happening and just get caught up in the moment he will handle it ok.
No matter what I am still telling the nurses that he is a serious fainting risk. hahaha
My husband watches a ton of medical shows (like on Discovery channel) and surgical procedures, and really doesn't mind it. He thinks it's interesting.
With my son, my husband watched down there as I tried to push Q out (he was holding my leg for me), and when I had to get a c-section, he watched the whole thing.
Oh Sarah, I'm in the same boat! lol. MH is sooooo squeamish about anything medical - he won't get shots, go to the dentist or even watch hospital shows on TV. I am legitimately afraid he's going to pass out. He also said he won't be watching the movies in childbirth class and I honestly think he won't. My mom has said in all seriousness, "You'd better have a backup!" I'm prepared to go it alone! haha

My DH is pretty squeamish and was really worried that he'd have to leave or he'd pass out. He ended up being a rockstar. I'm not a person that needs someone in my face encouraging me and he totally got that, and was supportive in a way I definitely needed.
He did leave the room when they put in my IV and epidural, though. After DD2 was born, she had meconium in her fluid and a huge rush of people came in. He got really light headed and had to go out, but I think he was just overwhelmed

OMG I just laughed so hard reading this.
DH has already told me he is not sure how is even going to get me to the hospital because he is pretty sure eh is going to go into a full blown anxiety attack the minute he hears the words, "it's time."
I am hoping by some kind of miracle, he is calm and collected. Hopefully, childbirth classes with help with that and I will get a better feel for how he will really be.
MH always gets mad because I say the only people I want in the delivery room are the doctor and the nurses. They were amazing both times! My husband hung in there - the first time was really rough and he almost passed out (from me screaming and accidentally looking where he wasn't supposed to!) but the second time he was much stronger. This time I think he'll be an old pro
My husband has done really well both times so I'm not concerned.
If your husband gets white watching someone on tv throw up I wonder how he'll be when the baby throws up, or worse, has a massive blow-out diaper.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
This Cluttered Life
My husband is in his last year of Optometry school, so he's seen almost everything! The only thing I think he'll have a problem with is seeing me in so much pain... he doesn't like it when I'm hurt.
