I'm not sure what's going on - normally BF is going pretty smoothly for both mommy and baby. He's always been a spit-up kind of kid, but a happy baby when it happens. And it's always been a lot - he lives in bibs, constant laundry. None of this has been a problem. However, the past week and a half it's been different. He's spitting up projectile, where it's going all over me, whatever we are sitting on, and the floor. He's now crying when it happens, usually right before.
I've planned to BF until about a year but if he's this unhappy maybe I should consider stopping sooner - but I would only do this if I thought formula would solve our problems. We have a pedi appointment on Friday but wanted to see your input - any advice? Could formula make this situation better?
Re: Could formula = less spit up/gas?
usually Milk is the biggest offender. Before you give formula eliminate all dairy from your diet for 3 weeks and see if it improves. like pp said it isn't too bad to do and if dairy is affecting your baby you wouldn't be able to give regular formula anyways so it wouldn't solve your problems it might make them worse!

Little Rose is 2 1/2.
Does it make sense that he got so much worse over the past week if a food allergy is the problem? Wouldn't his spit up with crying have always occurred?
I read the kellymom article (Thank you) and am wondering if using the log could be a starting point. Reason is, I eat a ton of dairy and if that's not the culprit I would hate to make things so hard on myself for no reason. I know that might sound selfish, but if a log could do the job I'd start there.
ETA: Breastmilk is much easier to digest and much more beneficial than formula, so I'd do some investigating and just see if you need to cut something out of your diet for a while.

Anytime we had given DD formula of ANY kind instead of BM there have always been more problems than with just BM. Sometimes when she's out with her daddy she'll have to go on backup formula and it gets expensive to switch formulas to find one that she can live on even for one feeding!
I'd suggest what others suggested, especially with the sitting upright part. Also, burping more often may help as well. DD had gas problems and I thought it was dairy, but thank goodness it's not. I cut down on dairy a bit and have tried to vary my diet a ton more than before and that has helped a lot!
omg, I love your signature photo! I am a girl drummer and there are so few of us. :-)
