ikea cribs/changing tables?

According to Baby Bargains, Ikea furniture is actually pretty good.  Are any of you doing Ikea for major pieces or are you going for baby brands instead?

Re: ikea cribs/changing tables?

  • I already got an Ikea bed and changing table! Big Smile I really love putting together furniture...I'm wierd like that. Lol!  But I've looked around at a LOT of baby furniture and it was definately comparable in quality.  I also love that the crib I got was convertible.  It has two heights for the baby and then converts to a toddler's bed later just like some of the baby brands...plus I saved on the price cause it's Ikea.  (They also had a sale when I bought them where if you bought over 100/furniture you ate lunch free!)

We have this crib for DD and it's been great.  It's very simple (our style) and it drops down so low, the mattress is only about 5 inches off the floor at the lowest setting.  I love how short it is, too b/c I'm only 5'3" and with my growing belly it's already getting harder to put DD in and out.  And it converts into a toddler bed!

We were going to get the same crib for #2 but my sister is giving us my niece's crib.

  • We're planning on going the IKEA route too.  I'm thinking seriously about the Hensvik line which has a crib that converts to a toddler bed (not sure we will go that route, but at $139 for the crib including conversion kit it's a nice option) and the bookshelf/changing table which seems like a GREAT idea to me since you can never have too many bookshelves in our family.  We'll probably try to find a used dresser that is better quality and will last through childhood.  All of the "baby" dressers seem so small!
  • I was going to get the Ikea crib but ended up getting another one instead. I'm still getting the Expedit bookshelf and the white Malm 6 drawer dresser which will double as my changing table. All of my Ikea furniture has held up really well and you really can't beat the price.

P.S. I love putting furniture together too!

  • We went with this Ikea crib. It is set up and seems really sturdy, but haven't used it yet. The price is tough to beat and I think it is super cute.

  • I have an Ikea dresser, clothes rack, and night stand for the baby's room.
I bought the crib at BRU.

  • Our whole baby room is Ikea, and I am pretty jazzed about it. It looks really simple and clean, and the furniture is really sturdy (of course, when DH put together the changing table, dresser and bookshelf he glued all the joints, in addition to all the screws. He said it needed to be "Climb-able", and I suppose he is right). It was all pretty easy to put together, and, best yet, we outfitted the entire room plus got little deco items and a huge bookshelf for our living room, for under $700. I love Ikea.

Which dresser did you end up getting? Are you using the dresser as a changer or did you get a separate changing table?

  • I looked at the cribs, but our baby room is pretty big and they were all pretty small... I didn't want it to look to small in the room so I bought one from Craigslist instead.... But I did get the 8 drawer Hemnes dresser that will be doubling as a change table and I am so excited about it!!! It looks great!!!

We got the Malm dresser, and we went ahead and got the changing table as well. Since we are cloth diapering, they take up just a little more storage space, so we thought we would want the shelves. And the changing table really looks a lot like a shelf, so when we don't need it for the original purpose, we can reuse it for storage somewhere else. There is not such thing as too much shelving!

  • We have Ikea cribs for our twins and they still use them now as toddler beds.  We have the gulliver ones in white and I have zero complaint, they're great!

We also had one of the little changing tables for when they were infants (the sniglar one) I don't think they had the gulliver one when we bought their furniture.  It's a different aspect ratio (more square, less long) that typical American changing tables but it was fine.  We stopped using it when they were around one since they didn't fit very well on it anymore.  This time we'll probably just use a changing pad on top of a regular dresser.

We use an expedit shelving unit (the giant one) for their room as well, with baskets down low that they can reach for toys and some books and stuffed animals in open shelves, we had closed bins up on the top shelves to store diapers and wipes etc. in.  It works great!

  • I bought the Malm 3-drawer dresser for $80. We'll put a changing pad on the top..
