I had posted last week how my company is changing insurance companies on June 1st. I am due July 30th and am going to an out of hospital birth center that is covered 80% with my current insurance. The new insurance doesn't cover any out of hospital births. HR assured me that the new company said they would make exceptions in cases like mine...so HR submitted a request for an exception. It was denied today...UGH! Luckily HR is going to fight for me. I can have cobra coverage of my current insurance if all else fails...hopefully I can get work to pay for it. I haven't been sleeping since I found out about this last week. I hate being this stressed out.
Also, there was an insurance rep at work today. He told me the following...
- a birth center "is not a medical facility"
- "Why can't you just go to a hospital?"
- also when I said that I wanted what the World Health Organization recommends for birth (outside of a hospital with a midwife), he said that he didn't know what the World Health Organization was
AAAHHH!!!
Re: Update: Insurance Freakout 2.0
I said it in your last post, but keep calling until you can talk to someone IN CHARGE, not a phone rep. I'm glad your HR is on your side. The insurance rep you talked to today is essentially a waiter, as opposed to the chef. You need to talk to the chef!
I hope you can find some peace and relaxation even with all this stress! Try not to worry about it- trust that it will get worked out soon.
I'm having a similar insurance issue. My insurance will cover a midwife in a birth center as long as there's an attending physician, but the thing is, NV has no birth centers (don't ask me why, it's so dumb), so my options are pay for the home birth with my midwife that I really really want out of pocket, or find an OB and go back to the hospital.
I'm still tossing around some options, but it's a source of huge stress for me, and I'm still far from having to worry about it!!
The insurance rep didn't know what the World Health Orgainzation was? Wow. Nothing pisses me off quite like ignorance.
He was completely ignorant...I wanted to punch him. I know there will be a resolution, but it is stressful. I'm only 87 days to due date, and the appeal process takes 30 days. I don't want to be in limbo that long.
Agreed. That is absolutely ridiculous.
All I can say is wow... O_O
