My daughter is 8 weeks old and 6 lbs exactly. She was born at 29.5 weeks and was 2lbs 9oz. She's having trouble digesting Neosure (see my other post, but lots of gas & grunting) so my pedi suggested cutting out the extra calories altogether and moving to just breast milk. This seems very early to me since she's still just 6 pounds.
When did your child cut extra calories (or when do you expect them to)?
Thank you from a worried mama!
Re: How Long for Extra Calories?
My boys were 30 weekers. The bigger baby weighed 3lb 10oz at birth, the smaller weighed 2lb 7oz at birth.
We stopped fortifying the bigger baby's BM with neosure when he was 5 or 6 weeks old. It was just way too rough on his tummy. He's been gaining weight like a champ since then - he's about 19 lb now.
Our smaller baby is still a peanut. We stopped giving him Neosure when he was about 3 or 4 months old, but we still mix his formula to 24 calories. He's about 15.5 lb now. He gets some BM straight from the tap, but my supply is almost completely gone now so the vast, vast majority of his nutrition comes from formula.
28 weekers born 2 lbs 3-5 ounces and we've never been on neosure, but we use enfacare and/or breastmilk mixed to 24 calories, now at 6 months actual age. We were on 27 calories until 2 months ago. They are about 14 lbs now.
i wonder how much longer this will go on for us too. have a pedi appt on Monday and a GI specialist too, so maybe we'll have a change.

i think typically until they are in the 50th percentile. ds is now in the 50th.
ds was just switched off of enfacare and is now on gentlease and he is such a happy baby now. I hated enfacare!
