Convertible car seat

The pedi mentioned we might want to start looking for H's next car seat as she seems to hate the reclined position of her Snugride.

Since most of you have kids older than mine who've been out of their infant car seats for a while... any recommendations? I'm not keen to spend $300+ for the Lexus of Britax models, so if you have a more reasonably priced one that you like, I'd love to hear about it!

Re: Convertible car seat

  • We have a Graco convertible carseat.  I think it was the Symphony 60 or something of that nature.  We ended up trading in a carseat that someone else had given us for 25% off of the convertible at BRU.

  • WE have the evenflo symphany 65 and have been very happy with it.  I bought it at BRU with a 20% off and it was aroun 120 ish....consumer reports rated it just as good if not better than the britax ones
  • I don't know if you're anti-Britax generally, but we got a Britax Roundabout for my small car, and M seems to like it. It retails for $200, but you can find 20% off coupons for Buy Buy Baby and BRU. I paid $160 for mine. I think we're going to get the Britax Marathon (a little more expensive) for our other car.

You can also check out albeebaby.com - I got our Britax seats there and paid a lot less than retail.  (The Marathons are $200 and $210 right now, and the Roundabouts are $150 and $160.)

  • We have a SunshineKids Radian, a Britax Boulevard, and two Recaros (a Signo which is discontinued  and a Proride).  We like the Recaros the best but they are over $200.  You can find good deals on AlbeeBaby and they have free shipping.

Also, you may want to check out carseatdata.org to see what other people think of the fit and ease of install for seats in your particular vehicle.  The Symphony that pp's mentioned is a popular one on there for my car.

  • i'm like you, i wasn't willing to spend $200 on a Britax.  i own 3 graco comfort sports.  they are $80 at walmart.com and you can do the ship to store so there is no shipping cost.  both boys love them.  they are safe and i liked that they are reasonably priced.  my parents have 2 Cosco Scenera's for their car that i bought for them.  those are about $40 and scored really well on consumer reports for safety, but not comfort.  i like those as the spare seats.

  • Ditto on albeebaby.com. DS has a Graco My Ride 65 for $120 from there. He's almost 3 and still isn't even close to the height/weight limits.

  • We bought a Britax Marathon on closeout from Albee baby for $180 and a Britax Boulevard from FAO Schwartz on some crazy lightening deal for $120.  If you have some time, look around, there are great deals to be had.
  • We have the Evenflo Triumph Advance LX and haven't ever had any problems with it.  It was reasonably priced and gets as good of ratings as the Britax.  DD will be getting it when she grows out of the infant seat.

  • Thank you, this is SO helpful. I had totally forgotten about Albeebaby! And I'm not anti-Britax, just anti spending $300 on any car seat. :)
