Nursing: It Gets Better

I came across this blog post and it was an interesting read.  I attend a breastfeeding support group on Tuesdays and it's incredible how everyone's experiences are so different, and how all babies have their own strengths and challenges in nursing.

Ask Moxie: Nursing: It Gets Better

(Disclaimer: I know that for some people, it doesn't get better and they have to either supplement or stop.  Obviously it's a situation that's unique to each woman, but I still found this helpful to read, as I've had my own frustrations and have learned a lot from listening to the women in my breastfeeding group.)

Re: Nursing: It Gets Better

  • I just signed up for a breast-feeding class through my hospital....I know so many people who have struggled with this, and I'm hoping I'll have a good experience. Thanks for sharing. :)

It does get better!  In the first few days, we struggled getting T to nurse at all.  We ended up needing shields for months. But the hardest was the timing.  T has always been a slow AND frequent nurser.  There were weeks where he nursed for an hour, off for an hour, then back to nursing for an hour, etc all day.

But now we're doing great and I get enough sleep to enjoy being a mom and enjoy nursing.  It is such a wonderful bonding experience.  I especially love it when he cracks a smile through the suckling.and now he waves at me.

I worried about the transition with nursing once T's teeth came in.  He has four teeth now, and there has been minimal discomfort.
