what is normal weight gain for baby?

I know I shouldn't worry about baby gaining too much weight at this point, but I can't help but worry she's gonna be overweight like I was as a kid, and I desperately don't want her to go through what I went through.  I feel like she is constantly eating, and now that her weight is finally going up, I'm happy, but worried at the same time.  My pedi isn't worried, but I just want to know whats normal.  I didn't ask last time, because I just got thinking about it.  Does anyone know what the average progression is?

  • My pedi said they like to see about an oz a day or 2 lbs a month at this point.

    My DD is 13 lbs at 5.5 weeks, which is pretty big. I'm not too worried about it. I know it isn't from overeating, so I'm just going to go with it until her pedi says something else.  HTH!

  • My Lo gained 2 pounds in 2 weeks. Pedi said it was fine because later down the line she might not gain as much.

    I have two nephews and one niece that were always very under weight. It was such a struggle for their parents. They were constantly at the doctors and my niece even had to have a feeding tube up her nose for awhile. Because of this, I really appreciate weight gain in babies. I thought I would be doomed to go through the same thing. My LO doesn't have a weight gain problem and I celebrate every day when I weigh her and she gained! After watching what my siblings went through with their kids, I don't think I will ever think anything negative about a baby gaining weight. Once they're older, sure, but not while they're still babies.
  • If you're breast feeding it's impossible for babies to over eat. They eat until they are full and stop.  

     But celebrate your baby's healthy weight and get in the habit of being positive about weight and not overly critical.
